The K models are unlocked. In addition, they always benchmark better from what I have seen..so I would always purchase the K variety.

the 2600k has an unlocked multiplier while the 2600 does not, the 2600 can be overlocked to around 5.01 ghz but the results for the 2600k are higher.

for the cost difference the 2600k is worthwhile if overclocking is your thing, if not then the standard 2600 is just fine.

The K model has Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics.

The non-K has Intel HD 2000 integrated graphics.

Tough to get a lot of detail on the differences, but it probably isn't clearcut in normal use.

According to the link, the 2600 DOES have the features; the K model does NOT.

It seems that the i5-2500K and the i7-2600K doesn't have those options.
Apparently Intel had to make some trade-offs to unlock the processors as well as give them both
the higher HD 3000 graphics.

Depends - You'll have to look those technologies up to see if it's something you want. For the most part I'd say no though.

And if you run/want to run a virtual machine the K does have Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x)

No one else is going to know this but you.

I went with the non-K version when I built my system in Jan because I don't normally overclock. It's fast as hell already.

For the small difference in price between the two ($15 dollars) you may as well get the K..... even if you don't overclock. It's a better chip.
Agreed 100%

I did, arrived this morning, just waiting for the mobo to turn up. In fairness my i7 930 is clocked at 2.8GHz so to jump to 3.4GHz cant complain. Thanks for feedback guys.

Hmmmm....... It's a little too late but had I known you already had an i7-900 system, I would have suggested you just upgrade your chip and wait for something newer than the current i7-2600 series.

That's the route I'm talking. I currently have an i7-950 (3.06GHz) chip and I don't think there's anything out there that it can't run/handle. BTW my 950 is OC to 3.8GHz.

Anyway good luck on your new Sandy Bridge setup.

BTW I really like that 2600K and if I didn't have my current system I'd be all over it like gravy on rice :D

Peace
