Hi, today i wanted paste a file to system32 directory in win 7 but i must have some kind of permission. What kind, how to enable it?. On Win xp i get communicate of access denied.

The quickest way to do this would be to open an adminstrative Explorer window (right-click an Explorer shortcut, the "Run as Administrator"). Perform your copy/paste operation from there.

You mention that you get an "Access Denied" message. This is likely because whatever file it is you are trying to replace is currently in use. which just increase the likelihood that you shouldn't be replacing whatever it is you are trying to replace.

However, your need begs the question: Why would you want or even need to paste anything into the System32 folder? It is protected in Vista and Windows 7 from casual file access in order to prevent problems.

Is it to resolve a program compatibility issue? Please elaborate as to what you are trying to do...

Ok i just tried to copy a file for a style change into the system32 folder, and although it says it copied inside, i cant see the file in the system32 folder. It is not a hidden file. This is seriously driving me crazy atm. In my many years of PC usage i have never ever seen something that ****ing annoying. I allready took ownership of the whole system32 folder, running explorer as admin didnt help either.

EDIT: when i try to copy the file into a new folder inside system32 it says "new folder is not available", i mean WTF.

I had problems with moving a directory to C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository and I kept receiving the "access denied" message. I read many forums, watched videos, but nothing helped. So I said to myself "let`s try and trick you, using cmd". So, I started cmd, changed the current path into C:\Windows\System32, saved my folder here, into a new directory named whatever it was easier (let`s say "easy"), and then I wrote this command in cmd: robocopy /S C:\Windows\System32\easy C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository (/S is for moving the subdirectories). So, this command moved the subdirectory from C:\Windows\System32\easy into the destination folder. I couldn`t believe it finally worked!! :X Hope this helps :)

Hi, I am getting Access Denied using the robocopy trick above and copy/pasting as an Admin. (My reason for putting files in System32 is that Windows Update isn't working, nor does the MS WU Fixit, so I'm copying delta files from a working Win7 machine.)

Somehow machine\Administrators has 'no' access while machine\users has read, list, execute. I assume that this is a policy from the malware that broke WU to prevent fixes. Administrator does not have the permission to take control of System32.

Cannot copy files to System32

Hi, I tried the robocopy command above but still get "Access Denied". Same for copy/paste as an Admin. I discovered that machine\Administrators on my machine have 'no' access to System32 (no checks in security dialog) but machine\users have Read, List, and Execute.

Why do I need access: Malware has replaced some of the DLLs for Windows Update which the Microsoft WU Fixit utility cannot restore.
