PC just went dead randomly after fixing NIC issue...

Hi well actually I'm just about done fixing this older pc/saving pics so I think that that would be a good working idea.
Let me go about finishing up and then I'm going to attempt to try the older pc's PSU on the windows 7 lightning one...wish me luck

Hi, well I'm not sure yet, it is a dell, dimension 8400 intel, OS windows xp PRO. Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 GHz, 200 GB of RAM...is it possible? Also, would Dell be able to help as far as supplying the PSU or motherboard as the computer is under hardware warranty still...

It is still under warranty? Why didn't you say so, just contact Dell, explain everything about the lightning, ect, and give the machine to them to fix it. They will replace the parts as needed.

I would certainly talk to Dell explain the situation and see if they offer to replace / repair under warranty. It may well be that lighting strike is outside the scope of the warranty. If they quote for the repair I would compare this with the cost of parts and choose the cheapest option. I would also consider that if Dell perform the repairs they may well retain or even extend the warranty which may make it worth paying extra over the DIY route

Of course if it would be covered under the warranty then he should give it to Dell, that is what I ment. If it wasn't covered then he shouldn't send it. Btw Barman, the warranty does not go away after a repair is used, a warranty for 1 year lasts for 1 year, no more, no less. Extending the warranty is optional, but it can be expensive, so normally I would not get extra warranty and just fix the PC problem by myself (DIY method) .

Hi, good news!! I contacted Dell and was able to (finally) convince them that it was a hard ware issue which I am covered for. They sent a tech to my house and installed a new motherboard and PSU. You see originally I had called Dell with this PC problem and was told that it was a software issue which I would have to pay to have fixed via purchasing software warranty for the year or for the specific problem. I knew that it was not a software issue but a hardware issue but dell insisted it was a software problem. So I went online and came across this awesome forum which along with SlasherIT and others help me trouble shoot to the NIC card. That was that until the PSU unit went. After dell was informed of the PSU, they then decided it was a hardware issue after all and sent the tech out to install the new PSU and motherboard which also addressed the NIC issue. It took the long was around this problem but now all is well

Hi Caldom,

I'm glad you managed to resolve your problem. Just so you know, the NIC you bought isn't really necessary anymore as the NIC on your motherboard should work fine now. I don't know what you can do with it now, you could just keep incase something happens or sell it to a friend or something. That is up to you.
