Two user accounts and IE behaves different

A month or so ago I noticed I could not listen to Cartalk (A PBS radio show) online when I always could before. Tried to troubleshoot. Reset IE8 and still no joy. It works just fine with Google Chrome so I know it is related to IE8.

Just created a new account (standard vs. my admin) and of course I can listen just fine on that account. Again tried to troubleshoot. Looked at add-ons. Made them identical, still no joy. Once again completely reset IE8 and still nothing.

So why would the website work just fine with the standard account and not my admin account? This is driving me crazy. I know I can use the standard account or chrombut I really want to know why this is happening.

There is one particular website I have to use that specifically says it is not compatible with IE9. It is a gov't website so who knows why or when they will say it is ok to use IE9.

I wonder if this thread should be moved to user accounts because I am starting to think it is related to that. I enabled the guest account and sure enough the website worked fine with IE8. So that is two other accounts on the computer where it works fine.

Now here is another issue I've stumbled across. Both other accounts show a Windows Media Player add-on in IE8. But my account does not. Nowhere. I don't think it is the cause of this issue but I wonder why I don't have that add-on. Any ideas on how to get it? I certainly have WMP although I don't really use it, until today of course when I set it up to see if I could get the add-on.

Now regarding this issue of not being able to listen to the online show. According to their site the player uses Flash. Which I have. I uninstalled it/reinstalled it but that made no difference.

So knowing that other accounts on the computer can get this website to run I'm starting to wonder if creating a new account for me will work. Lots of work it seems. Will have to transfer over 70GB of data and I know it adds extra crap on the computer. But I am stuck. There is no reason why I should not be able to get that website to work for me other than something related to my user account I fear.

Usually, underline the word usually, when user account A works fine while the user account B does not, that means B account is corrupted.

To confirm that assumption, create another admin account. Logon to that new admin and see if it works ok.
If yes, your old admin is corrupted.

That's okay, when you run the site in compatibility mode it will render the page using IE7's standards.

I still am perplexed by this one. I really see no other indicators that my user account is corrupt. But it's clear the website runs fine on other accounts on the computer so what else could it be?

Right or wrong, and I do not claim to be an expert, that is my conclusion.

I said so out of my first hand experience as well as postings from other users of similar scenario in the past.
It all points to a corrupt user account.

You can always wait for someone else's replies.
