Virtual PC 2007 was capable of running Windows Server 2008 and prior server operating systems as the client OS. Virutal PC 2007 was not compatible with the latest Windows 7 RC. It's replacement, Windows Virtual PC runs great in Windows 7 since it is designed to, but it does not support anything but xp, vista and windows 7 as the client OS. Is anyone aware if Windows Server 2008 32-bit will become a supported client OS for Windows Virtual PC or whether Virtual PC 2007 will have another service pack which allows it to run on Windows 7. If neither of those 2 things come true there is a clear loss of functionality for developers who rely on running server operating systems in a virtual machine.
For anyone who's still reading...
Virtual Server 2008 will run the server OS's as the client OS, but there is no desktop integration with this product. A developer would basically have to Remote Desktop into the machine with no integration features.
I'm hoping there is something I am missing!
