Solved Windows can't read FLAC tags

I have several music files in flac format, and I can open them in progmras like Mp3tag, and they see the flac tags like artist, title..etc. and I can modify them as well.

Can I add anything to windows shell to make explorer and wmp able to read these tags? (I have flac codec installed and I can play them in wmp, but it only shows the filesnames) :sarc:

As far as the windows shell goes (I assume you mean reading tags in Windows Explorer), no.
As for WMP12, I thought it could read FLAC tags by default; unless they are in another format WMP can't recognize; not sure as I don't use the FLAC format.

After installing WMP Tag Plus, existing FLAC files in WMP's library need to be re-added for their tags to show up. Did you do this?

To re-add the FLAC files to the library, select them, right-click, select Delete, Delete from library only, and click OK. Then go to Tools - Advanced and select Restore deleted library items.

You're welcome WMP Tag Plus will only add FLAC tag support to WMP. To get FLAC tags in Explorer too, you will need a FLAC property handler. Such a property handler seems to be included in the Media Foundation FLAC Codec, but note that I haven't tried this myself yet.

What program are you talking about? We need a property handler for flac. DOes your program have one? Media Foundation FLAC Codec did not do it for me.

Um, I had a clean install since then (lol)
I am installing wmp tag plus right now, you can find the link in post #1

edit: if you have it installed, open WMP and click organize > apply media info changes
Now wmp should read your tags.

What I need is for *Explorer* to read and write flac tags. WMP Tag won't do it, neither will Media Foundation FLAC Codec, and the way dbPowerAmp does it, in my opinion, is no good - adding two tabs to the Explorer Properties dialog when you can do it right within the Properties>Details tab with mp3. Also, dbPowerAmp's Install program looks like it was programmed with a kit. Very amateurish.

If Microsoft could figure a way to make money off flac, I'm sure they'd implement it right away. But the Party Line is that flac is a "minority" format.

Maybe somebody out there can program a properties handler worthy of the name; I sure as hell can't and dbPowerAmp botched it.

Yes, there was a FLAC Property Handler for Explorer located at http://castlemadeofsand.wordpress.com, but as you can see the author has removed his blog, for no apparent reason. Luckily, the Property Handler can still be downloaded from Megaupload.

lol ya I tell you it's something else. Microsoft should just get off the pot and just do it. I agree with Lestrad I don't like dbpoweramp crappy way because I don't want to install an app just for tags to show up. I've looked and looked for a simple way to no avail, I believe there enough flac users to have it implemented myself..

nice download link , it now allows me to add coverart tag on flac file so it shows on each file ,this previously wouldnt work using mp3tag, or at least it wouldnt show, thanks.

Ya that's definitely on file that will always be protected from being erased on my system. Put in cloud storage and email it to myself at gmail. lol
