New Laptop Keeps Getting BSOD

Hi,

I've recently bought this laptop at an IT fair (from a retailer), and am really concerned at the number of times I get the BSOD.

The first time I got the BSOD was when I've tried ASUS AI recovery burner to create a backup disc of the laptop. Then I got it again when I've tried windows update and at random times.

I've done a clean install but I still get the same problem. I was wondering could it have been a ram problem? since I've upgraded from 4gb to 8gb.

I've attached the files, however, I couldn't do a system health report due to the time out error. Instead, I've attached the SFC /SCANNOW error report along with the bsod reports.

System spec info:
Windows 7 x64, OEM
ASUS notebook K43SJ
Age of system: 1 month max?
Age of OS installation: windows 7 came preinstalled and I've tried reinstalling.

If anyone can help, I really deeply appreciate it. Thanks for the help!

Hi David and welcome.

These were both caused by memory corruption (probably a driver).
Please run the following two tests to check your ram and to find the misbehaving driver.


Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Thanks for the reply!

I've tried running memtest 86, but both times after 1 pass, there was an unexpected interrupt - Halting CPU 0

1st time was:
Type: 80a730c3

2nd time was:
Type: 83f0cd0c

There were no errors though. However, quite some time before I did a clean install, there was 1 error detected, but I can't rmb what error it was.

As for the verifier method, how do I determine which driver is at fault, or find out the source of the problem? I turned on the laptop, started using chrome, left it for a while, and I got the BSOD - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

Sorry I don't have much technical information about computers, thanks for the attention and help!

In view of the short time you've had the computer you need to contact the reseller with a view to a repair, refund or replacement.


In the meantime, you might want to remove the extra RAM for two reasons:

1. It may be faulty memory.
2. It would probably invalidate any warranty the reseller gave you.
