Anyone played it? Best freakin' storyline ever, IMO. Finished the first one and am now half way through the second. Seriously, it's great.

I totally agree. Altair's story just kind of... ends. While we stick with Ezio all the way. I hear he'll be in Revelations too.

And funny you should recommend Prototype. I just ordered it a few days ago as I heard it was good. I plan to play it after I finish AC.

Yeah, the ability to 'do what you want' is great. Better than GTA, Crysis, COD and all those other modern shooting games, in my opinion. Graphics are great and the mixture of historical figures and buildings in the story line is amazing.

I remember seeing the first few teasers and gameplay trailers, where the devs promised us a lot of excitement and stuff...

Then I played the first game and, like I said in another thread, thought it was, apart form the story, the worst garbage I have played in years. And I still think that. The overall concept and idea was amazingly cool and original, but the execution of it all in the first game was just irritatingly bad. The controls were buggy and unresponsive, the soundtrack was muddy and uninteresting, the graphics not bad, but also not good.

AS2, on the other hand, was a true gem. Everything that the first game missed and did wrong was corrected in AS2... and then added even more. Much more exciting overall, original missions, sidequests, better graphics and soundtrack; everything seemed to be balanced out perfectly to make the game great... Except that it was too easy for most players, who ended up with tons of cash in their pocket having nothing to spend it on; the fights, although generally raising in difficulty towards the end of the game, were still too easy; but fortunately, it did not really take as much fun out of playing it as in the first game where complete repetitiveness cause boredom in addition to buggy controls which resulted in many deaths and retries... far too many.

Now, AS Brotherhood seems to be by far the best game in the franchise (though not my favorite, my fav is AS2). Tons of sidequests and activities, the money issue from AS2 was corrected and balanced out, too. The graphics? Great again. The soundtrack? Overall good, but doesn't always fit into the game (I realized this only when I actually bought and listened to it, then started recognizing them within the game). I feel like the controls have been tampered with in a naughty, naughty way and are not as great as they used to be :p

The Animus interface is something I really don't like about this game. It just looks and feels, not to mention works as if it was only meant for the stupid consoles; using a mouse with it is at times impossible. Adding a "full sync" challenge to missions is great, but sometimes "pushing it". I found myself retrying certain (relatively easy) missions just to get that 100% sync... Also, using the map with the mouse is horrible! Zooming in can be so painful when I need to pinpoint something quickly, and the worst part about this is that near the beginning I seemed to continuously want to walk right into "memory not available" barriers, not really being sure if I can go where I wanted or not. I had no problem with this in AS2, even though the very first playthrough.

The difficulty actually varies a lot in this game, depending on which kind of missions you're doing, which is awesome. It keeps certain suspense and never "lets down".
Before I played it, I had thought that the members of Brotherhood will have their own missions; collecting people with certain reputation for fighting against the Borgia, who have the skills to become assassins... So helping random peasants on the streets was kind of a let down, but the ability to create diversions, kill the guards/targets quickly just by walking by and send them on their own missions to complete made me forget about it.

The franchise is definitely a fresh, exciting and original concept in gaming, especially in terms of storyline. Now, whether it is better than GTA and aforementioned FPS games (why would you want to compare them with FPS games in the first place) is debatable, but seeing as how we didn't exactly have many games like this (except the "Thief" franchise, I guess) it is certainly something one must check out.

^^Great analysis, Gornot. I agree with you on some counts, although I still think Assassins Creed was good. Perhaps not half as good as AC2 but decent.

Sorry, what I meant was that the GTA and COD franchises are/were heavily publicised and are considered to be great games. Sure, they're good, but I'm just saying that for a 'not as known' game like AC, it really raises the bar. Anyway, everyone I talk to about Brotherhood says it's amazing. I seriously can't wait to play it. :)

You definitely should. Towards the end I just wanted to get it over with and see what happens with Desmond and the others, so the VERY sudden ending was a total WTF for me. Luckily, just one more game (Revelations, of course) and Desmond's story is finally over.

IMHO, GTA and COD have a reputation, that's what's selling these games today and that's why people actually think they're good, lol. Excluding COD3 which never came out on PCs and was generally the first bad COD game, the first and (especially) second installments were a true peace of art for their time. All the people I know still to this day praise COD2 as the best shooter ever, and there has been little competition still. Then came Modern Warfare, which was good, but short, and the rest of COD crap is history, lol.
GTA too, the third game was so freaking awesome that Vice City was forgotten not long after release. Then came San Andreas with "niggas gettin' blasted" (Google it -> Images :p) storyline which was just LOL, and 4 which is just... bad. It was the first GTA game in which I actually hated driving around all the time; it's hard to explain but the feeling is there.

If we're going for "raising the bar" kind of video game(s), this is definitely The Witcher. Especially the second one. They bring back the excitement of playing RPGs (unlike Dragon Age 2) for an "old" gamer who's a fan of Diablo and Baldurs Gate, since most butchered (in one or more ways) and badly scripted games on the market are RPGs (or at least, I feel like that). Dragon Age: Origins/Mass Effect franchise raised the bar when it came to storyline (not the main storyline but the little details and character interaction); DA:O's fighting system, although great, is not nearly as complicated and exciting as, for example, the Drakensang franchise (but let me make things clear, DA:O fighting system is still awesome, unlike the sequel).

Assassin's Creed feels to me like a remade "Thief" idea with gigantic improvements; now whether it's fair to compare these two franchises or not... well, I don't care xD
The franchise does raise the bar some, but I feel like the first game ruined much of the experience for me, and since there aren't really any other games that can be called even remotely similar, it certainly makes it a "must try/must see" franchise.

DA:O yes, DA2 no; there isn't that many good things, even about the story, that'll require you to buy it. Just wait for DA3. Also, The Awakening DLC should be a good experience for DA:O, though again, it's nothing extremely special.

And as for the Witcher, a big hell yes! You will love the first game, and then totally flip out when you play the second. They're all worth every penny.

Gornot, I hate to have to correct you, since you put out a wonderful opinion on AC, but I felt the need to see if you misspoke, or are mislead.

Revelation is the end of Ezio's story, not Desmond's. There could be as many as 4 more games before we get to the end of Desmond's Story.

---The following sentence is a spoiler---
SERIOUSLY, don't read it and come crying to me about the fact that I blew it for you. :)

What I can't wait to find out is why he killed her at the end of Brotherhood. I bet she was a Templar, playing him for a chump.

I would disagree with the spoiler ;)
But that would mean entering a purely speculation discussion, so let's leave it at that ;)
Besides, the game is called "Revelations", I don't see how much of the story can they hold back still.

Purely speculative discussions are my specialty.

There are conservatively 6 more times frames before we even get up to the present day where Desmond is. They would be stupid to jump from Ezio to the present, there is too much more story they could play out.

Honestly, as long as they keep the story moving, and they don't got MW2;WAW;BO on the franchise, they will find me waiting in line for each installment.
