Won't save mouse settings after restart

I have an HP pavilion DV8 laptop, and a logitech wireless USB mouse, as well as the standard laptop touch pad.

So, I can change my mouse settings in the control panel, as well as my logitech app, and as it stands they intermix slightly (The control panel effects the logitech app's sensitivity). Basically I turn my control panel speed settings up (all the way, I shouldn't have to touch the touchpad 5 times to navigate across the screen), and on the logitech app I turn the sensitivity down most of the way (any faster and its a bit squirrely to use).

The problem is, whenever I restart my computer the control panel mouse settings revert back to being REALLY slow, and it is getting a bit annoying to have to go into the control panel every time I start up.

Has anyone had problems similar to this? Is there an updated driver fix, or can I change a settings file to read only, or something else maybe? Please help!

That would be SetPoint causing that....that program is notorious for resetting your "Windows" mouse speed. I've fought it for years but as I generally only use my mouse, I've given up the battle....

BTW, there's a setting in SetPoint that is supposed to allow for "OS mouse speed implementation" but as I've stated, hasn't helped me...

I too have fought with this annoying problem for years now! It has been super frustrating! Just today, I updated my software from inside the software checking for updates. I then adjusted the mouse speed from setpoint and restarted my computer, and it held!! Hopefully this will be the final fix! I'll have to keep trying it. The biggest downside to this is when I want to change back to my laptop's touchpad and it's slower than tar. Logitech needs some help with this one.

I had the same problem with my microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse. Fixed it by
- Going to msconfig, startup tab
- Enabled microsoft intellipoint and microsoft IntelliTypePro (software for my mouse and keyboard) so they would startup when I boot.

I don't think that it is simply a SetPoint or Intellitype driver problem, because I have found that the Control Panel/Mouse settings fail to keep their settings, even with no manufacturer's driver installed.

Mouse won't keep pointer settings

I sure wish someone had a solution for this. I have Win7 and an ordinary Dell mouse, and have tried various things I've found online (can't remember exactly now because I gave up months ago), but nothing works. Every day when I turn on my computer, I have to reset the pointer because it reverts back to SLOOOWWW again!

Wont save mouse settings after restart

I found the solution to my problem and setup. Go to the startup tab in masconfig or your startup manager and make sure your mouse settings software is enabled to start up. In my case, it was the Logitech Setpoint that I disabled in Start up tab and if it is disabled, it cannot remember your last settings, it start up back to basic settings. So make sure it is enabled, simple as that.

Yay!!!

I finally came back to say, I finally got this fixed! Just last week. I had to fix another problem, and information I found online told me to start msconfig.exe and go to the Startup tab to disable something. While I was there, I noticed other items that seemed to refer to a mouse I no longer use. I felt it was safe to disable them, and sure enough, now my settings are being saved! What a relief to be rid if this silly problem.

Looking back, it seems that other advice above was similar, but in my case I needed to DISABLE mouse software (or something)--and I was pretty sure I had already uninstalled the software in question so I don't know what was going on. I disabled three items, one that said Intellipoint (can't recall exactly), so I don't know exactly what fixed it. Sorry to be so vague but I'm not at that computer now. I just encourage everyone to (carefully) try disabling (or enabling?) items they find in Startup.

Added info to mouse settings solution

So make sure it is enabled, simple as that.

I have Win 7 Pro x64 and Logitech SetPoint software. The above solution solved my issue BUT I found if I went into Win Control Panel --> Mouse to temporarily switch L/R buttons back to default (for a right-handed friend... previously, I had switched them in SetPoint - I'm left-handed), it will permanently cancel out the SetPoint settings until you reset them again. Also, if you leave L/R SetPoint button settings at default, switch them in Control Panel, then open SetPoint, your Control Panel settings will permanently cancel out until you reset them again.
CONCLUSION: Decide to exclusively use either SetPoint ~or~ Control Panel --> Mouse L/R (and possibly other) mouse settings, not both. I will use SetPoint as I may occasionally need to open the software for other unifying devices.

Thank you danico55 for getting us on track; hopefully this addendum might be of help others.

I have a Dell laptop and Dell mouse, and Logictech SetPoint was installed (not sure why). I uninstalled it and the problem is gone. My mouse and touchpad still work normally.

YES! Worked for me too :) I have HP wireless mouse which came with "HP Mouse Control Center". Yet I found out that there were 3 aps related to it running at startup. Disabling one of them did the trick - finally! Thank you ;)
