Help with NVidia 8400M GT driver

Guys,

Please help please, I am running a Sony Vaio as described below.

It seems that my NVidia Driver is crashing every time I stream directly from the Internet e.g. Youtube a.s.o. and the image is turning into green.

It is giving me the following message "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 275.33 stopped responding and has successfully recovered

Just to mention that I have the latest driver from NVidia; release date 2011.06.01

Unfortunately it's not working as the driver does not recognize any NVidia Graphic Card on my computer and fails to install, although I have an NVidia driver installed. That's the issue with Sony Vaio laptops.

Any other suggestions I would be more than happy to try them.

You might try Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper to uninstall your current driver. Download the 270.61 driver
NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search and save it first to install after using Driver Sweeper.

Yes this model was sold in the SE Europe, Sony Vaio does not offer any support at all for this one. It had pre-installed Vista on it. That is why you cannot find anything about this model.

The NVIDIA 270.61 driver doesn't work either...and now after uninstalling the 275.33 one it wouldn't allow me to install it back...any other suggestions.

Did as you've told me, it was a clean install it...still it is not working

did you use Drive Sweeper? The nVIDIA "clean" install doesn't always work.

I have installed the Driver Sweeper, it cleaned the NVIDIA driver. Now I am on standard VGA adapter and it wouldn't allow me to install any other NVidia driver, regardless of the release.

After rebooting, the standard VGA graphic adapter installed automatically.

Tried again with the 270.61 version...no luck. Now I am running again on the 275.33 version, it is the only one that works...faulty but it works. Maybe there will be an update soon and the problem will disappear.

Still opened to other solutions, the green screen makes me go nuts

You're welcome Vlad, sorry you're having this problem. I've flip-flopped nVIDIA drivers with no problem and used driver sweeper to clean the old ones first.

As for the green coloring, could it be a bad monitor, loose connector, or bad cable perhaps. If you have another monitor or cable handy, give them a try. I had a monitor go bad recently which turned pink.

Try the Vista drivers:

VAIO : Sony Europe

As it's a notebook PC, it's likely that Sony is using a custom device ID for onboard graphics that a generic installer does not recognize. Once you have the Vista drivers installed, you can probably install newer drivers over them as an update.

(It has been a while, but I recall I had to do something like that with my Compaq CQ50-105NR, which has an nVidia chipset and 8200M onboard graphics.)

Briton, maybe I didn't explain myself well enough. The green color refers to the youtube player in direct stream (guess I'm not mistaken). What happens to my monitor is that it turns black 2-3 times and after this flickering I cannot view the video. You have a capture below.

@ bobkn - what you have described above is what I first started with and it didn't work. Maybe Sony Vaio notebooks are different, I don't know. I am very happy with the way the machine works right now and less happy with Sony's way of addressing issues with consumer needs... my model, VGN-FZ11E is not among the upgrade list

I have the latest drivers right now, using Driver Max Pro with a full month validity (the cost 10 euro). It is the best driver update software I have found so far.

Sorry Vlad, you're right I didn't understand From your screenshot it may also be you need to install/update Flash and/or Shockwave. I had that same look in youtube and that fixed it. Your mileage may vary of course, just a thought.
