CD's/DVD's play but cannot burn

I used to be able to burn them. Not sure where to start.

Sony Vaio VGN-NS230E.

I ran the Microsoft FixIt application but it did not resolve the problem. Fresh install of windows 7. Brand new cdr's. Also, when I insert a blank CD, it doesn't show up in My Computer, however if I insert a CD with data on it(or music), it shows up. Also should point out I have VirtualCloneDrive installed.

Any help?

Check whether a firmware update - version 1.22 dated 13 Jan 2011 - for your UJ880AS BDROM drive from Sony eSupport - VGN-NS230E - Software Updates & Drivers (Windows7>Bluray Disc) can resolve the issue. You may also update other drivers from that site.

That didn't fix the problem.

Your optical drive may need to be replaced - but I will take that call only after confirming that an external optical drive reads and writes perfectly with your Windows 7 installation, given the past history.
