alright u guys looks like the redirecting virus is gone, but now i have a new problem, i cant open windows defender, when i launch it, it opens for like 2 seconds and then closes immediately, same thing happened when i installed microsoft security essentials. These are signs that the virus is still alive but somewhere else. Also, when i try to use the microsoft malicious removal tool, i click on it to run, but nothing happens. So any ideas?

Hmmm...I can't offer much help, but would suggest the following:
- Virus scan outside the windows environment (nice read here) or,
- run SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt
- perform a Repair Install of Windows: Repair Install

Do you really need Windows Defender? I don't use it..MSE also (but that's just me) :)

Twice as Much Protection, or Twice as Many Headaches? MSE and Windows Defender

Repair Install I belive will help you. Let's wait for some of the guys. They might have better ideas.

Kaspersky's TDSS Killer is highly recommended and so as ESET and HMP for the TDSS trojan. I see that there is a lot of MSE/Defender that will not function after some during-in- between/removal process has taken place. Try scanning outside the windows environment but as stated "if" there is still something wrong then a disc full wipe and OS installation is to be done. Sorry if I can't add more but the guys will be here shortly to assist you.

Scanning will be done without need to booting to windows. You can scan using a usb/live cd. Just stick it in the drive(if cd) or plug it in the port. For How-it-Works Dr.Web LiveUB / How-it Works Dr.Web LiveCD it will scan when you boot. I gave yo the link previously for it and how it works/instructions are displayed there. Avira Rescue system also at page 3(I think). When you download the live-cd/live usb file it's already up-to-date with the virus definition files unlike Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper which needs to be updated.

For a full disc wipe, follow as StalkeR suggested:

Hello there. If you want to remove all from Windows follow this tutorial.

Apart from MSE not working, MSE and other antivirus software will disable windows defender because they replace it (microsoft implemented this feature). I don't know why MSE isn't opening, but how many antivirus software do you have installed now on your computer? Never should have more than one running (live), so if you do, I recommend at least disabling the antivirus software not in use (meaning you will need to go through individually and enable/disable according to your needs). Make sure they are all updated before you start a scan. Microsoft has a malicious software removal tool you might try, released every month and is a simple one time run install.

Remember windows updates often release downloads to protect you from viruses and such, make sure you are up to date.

So your antivirus software is all updated? windows update usually updates MSE, check if there are any updates for it. Failing that, try to reinstall it (or any other Antivirus software for that matter).

Sorry about that I must have missed that in the early posts. About HP, well I symphatize with you..also did not get any installation cd with mine and the service is so so...gave me the run around and even insisted I what I was doing was wrong even if the procedure I followed strictly came from them. Switched to Lenovo then Dell.

I hope you find the solution you need for your laptop. Well, if I may add(at your leisure), do take into consideration an imaging software and external hdd. So if ever you need to revert to a clean system image it will be just minutes away.

Goodluck :)
