If's there's one thing we hate, it's Brussels sprouts. If there's two things we hate, it's Brussels sprouts and sneaky programs that automatically install add-ons into our Internet browsers. Turns out we're not the only ones. Those pesky unapproved add-ons have been a thorn in the side of Mozilla, who shoulders the blame when the invaders cause crashes and browser lagging. When Firefox 8 rolls around, unauthorized add-ons will be a thing of the past: the browser won't allow installations without the express permission of users.

Yeah same here, Add-ons everytime there's an update. very frustrating
You have to go through the browser every-time there's an update and remove
all that stuff. Plus until they fix some of the code? You can't edit/use certain
websites through the newer version's of Firefox.
Some of the html heavy graphic websites go crazy when loaded and you still
can't copy/paste text right with firefox yet..:o
copy/paste buffer still has a problem on certain websites....:o

with chrome i noticed it has issues with lots of websites i used, like when there's a page you have to agree to in order to get to the next page. Plus chrome ad blockers don't block youtube ads, because all the youtube ads are from adsense. If you clear all your history, cache, etc and then open facebook in chrome and firefox, i bet you firefox will load it faster. Also when you click on a click on firefox, you can still drab another link into the tab bar to also open it, but in chrome as soon as you click on it link the page is basically unusable.
What do you mean "You can't edit/use certain websites through the newer version's of Firefox."? Firefox works much better with every website i use, plus chrome has many many small and large issues another example is this video i found: shrink - YouTube

I hope that firefox can get a sync system going that tracks bookmarks, history and the like as well as what Google is doing with Chrome. I moved to Chrome about 2 months ago and I have been very happy with it.

Firefox 8 to tell aggressive add-ons to back off

Mozilla is taking steps to protect users from programs that install add-ons in Firefox without user permission, citing numerous reasons including security concerns and the desire to make sure that the person using Firefox has ultimate control of the add-ons installed.

Two new features will be making their debut in Firefox 8, currently on the Firefox nightly channel but planned to move to the Aurora developer's build early next week. The first feature automatically disables add-ons added to Firefox by other programs. When you start Firefox after the add-on has been installed, a notification window prompts users to either activate the add-on or ignore it.

The second feature kicks in the first time Firefox runs after upgrading to version 8. It goes through your add-ons and sorts them into two categories: ones you've installed, and add-ons from third-party programs. All active add-ons that you have installed will be kept active, while all third-party add-ons will be de-activated unless you choose to re-activate them. As an additional level of protection against unwanted de-activation, the feature will offer a confirmation list of the add-ons you want killed.

You should be able to

Firefox Nightly Builds

It should be possible.
You'll probably have to do some tinkering.
I have run different versions of FF simultaneously (FF3.5 & FF4, FF5 & FF8a).

Backup profiles.ini
C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini

Backup your profile(s)!

C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile Name>

If you think that the following procedure looks tricky, you might want to image your HDD first!

Procedure:

1 - Make a copy of your profile (e.g. "default") and then change the name (e.g. "default8"). Repeat for as many profiles as you like.
2 - Make sure that you install the FF versions to separate directories/folders (e.g. FF5 and FF8).

Whichever version you install last will become the "default" Firefox install (i.e. if you type "Firefox" in the "Run" box, it will start the last version installed).
This will also happen if a program tries to run an online help manual (or get an update that requires you to download an installer).

Don't run either version FF as soon as you have installed them.

If you have a previously installed version, don't run the new install yet.

3 - Open the "Run" box and type "Firefox -P" (without the quotes; remember the space). The FF Profile Manager will open.
4 - Choose "Create Profile".
FF Create New User 01.png
5 - Click "Next".
FF Create New User 02.png
6 - Enter the name of the copied profile that you edited.
7 - Click on "Choose Folder".
FF Create New User 03.png
8 - Navigate to the copied profile folder that you made and click "OK". Your new profile should appear in the list.
FF Create New User 04.png
Remember to deselect, "Don't ask at startup".

The next time you start FF, the Profile Manager should open and you can select the desired profile from the list.
To avoid add-on glitches, make sure that you open your profiles with the appropriate FF version.

3 - Open the "Run" box and type "Firefox -P" (without the quotes; remember the space). The FF Profile Manager will open.
4 - Choose "Create Profile".5 - Click "Next".6 - Enter the name of the copied profile that you edited.
7 - Click on "Choose Folder".8 - Navigate to the copied profile folder that you made and click "OK". Your new profile should appear in the list.Remember to deselect, "Don't ask at startup".

The next time you start FF, the Profile Manager should open and you can select the desired profile from the list.
To avoid add-on glitches, make sure that you open your profiles with the appropriate FF version.

Cool Thanks a lot. I did this once, but I didn't remember all the details. So far it runs super fast in comparison. What's the hold up I wonder with Firefox not yet releasing a final version?
