For my HDD in my computer? Or my external. If the external, it's not the problem b/c i never even have it turned on or plugged in other than for backups.

Also, the mini dump compiler is still running. It SHOULD NOT be taking close to 2 hours now for this when it only took minutes a few days ago.

All the sudden for the past few days, my computer has been booting slowly and been running really slow as well and also freezing up for like 10 seconds at a time sometimes as well.

Edit: IT'S DONE AT LAST. Finally. It's now attached to this post.

I just got off the phone with Dell after a 3 hour conversation with a hardware support guy and then a software support guy.
According to the hardware guy, it's not due to hardware trouble. He then put me through to the software guy. He told me that he can help me find the problem if i buy an $80 solution center contract for dell because it deals with 3rd party software. He believes it definitely a driver. He said that if i didn't buy the contract, he couldn't help me and that I should just reinstall windows completely.

I think i may just go ahead and reinstall it and see what happens.

You can test your internal HDD for now, run the test on the external next time you use it.
From the information below I would run the WD Lifeguard tests right after making a backup of your HDD.
You may loose all your data if the HDD fails.

What did the Dell hardware rep tell you?
Did you tell him about the 0x124 BSoD?
Did he ask you to do any tests?

Both your last crashes were the same as before.
STOP 0x00000124: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).

Go to the Dell website and update these drivers.
Older drivers can cause crashes with Windows 7.
I will list alternative manufacturer sites if Dell doesn't have current drivers.
Delete any program listed for testing purposes, if they don't have a new software version or newer driver.
Any Driver with a date before 2009 is going to cause trouble with Windows 7, you need to update or remove the associated programs.

The first rep took control of my pc and started running tests. He told me it wasn't hardware related, so he put me through to a software guy. That guy said it's because of my upgrade from Vista to 7 and that something isn't compatible. He started running the sfc /scannow thing for me, which came back with no errors.
Would i be able to just use Driver Genius to update the needed drivers?

There are no programs that load drivers for you very well. These types of programs are not recommended.

It is best to learn how and where to find them.

Most of your drivers can be found on the Dell Drivers and Download site:
Dell Studio XPS 435MT Drivers & Downloads
Bookmark this link for future reference.

Use one of these system specs free programs to identify your components.

SIW - System Information for Windows - This is a very thorough software and hardware program, spend a little time and this will tell you everything about your computer. After a short time you will be able to quickly find what you are looking for.

Speccy Free System information Utility - Good program, fairly simple layout, not as many details as the program above.

System Info - See Your System Specs - A quick list of your system specs.

Dont Know What Hardware You Have..?? - Information on CPUZ and GPUZ.

Your first step is to run Western Digital Lifeguard – Quick Test and Extended Test.
If your HDD is failing you need to backup your data, Macruim Reflect, is a good free program for Image Backups.

Next I would recommend updating all your drivers, remove programs if they don't have newer drivers. This is for testing purposes, if your system is stable then you will know what caused the instability. You can add these programs back after testing, one by one and see if they cause crashes. You can also get alternative programs. There are many free programs that are very good.
Here is an on-going list of Seven Forums recommended free programs.
FREE Great Programs for Window 7

Have you been checking your temperatures?
Use Real Temp , to check the CPU temps when at idle, under load and/or testing.
Let us know the minimum and maximum temps you get.
An over heating CPU can cause a lot of problems, make sure all the cores are below 72.9°C

Yeah. The temps seem normal.

I haven't been able to run the hdd test yet because I haven't been able to back up the pc yet. I should be backing up and running the test today. If it turns out being fine, I'm going to be reinstalling windows tomorrow.
I plan on using windows easy transfer when I reinstall windows.

We've unplugged any extra non essential peripherals. That hasnt fixed the issue, but it has sped up the pc very slightly. It's been really slow for the past week now, so speeding it up alittle is good. It's also been freezing for 5 to 10 seconds at a time aswell.

Also, if it helps, the pc has also bsod before we've even gotten a chanc to choose a user and logon.

We've also been uninstallin programs that we don't need ATM before we do the backup and maybe to see if heyre causin the problems.

Edit: well, after 4 attempts of trying to back up the machine, it continues to bsod partway through.

Right now, it's ranging from 60-67 C. I'm doing some browsing and such. Although, under load, it goes up to like 75/76.
It's high right now is 70 and low is 56.

I'll have to let the computer sit at the desktop for a bit and see what the temp goes to.

Edit: I'm manually backing stuff up right now. Pretty much only the user folders which contains all the important stuff.

Those temps are very high.

From Post#5
Don't go over 72°C, this is the Intel recommended max CPU core temp.
Intel® Core™ i7-920 Processor

Your CPU will throttle down before it reaches 72°C core temp.

Check if your CPU cooler is loose.
If it is, tighten it up, you will likely have to remove it.
If/when you do, clean the CPU and cooler contact surface with alcohol and a clean dry lint free cloth or coffee filters work well.
Get some good thermal paste, Arctic Silver 5 is highly recommended, if you haven't done this before try to get some help, this needs to be done correctly or the results could be worse.
It needs to be a very thin layer.

Alright. I'll check out the fan and such today.

I was finally able to successfully run the windows backup overnight. I had noticed that the computer was having a good day yesterday, so i started it at 8 PM last night and it completed sometime in the night.

I'll be running the WD HDD test within the next 10 minutes.

essenbe, good link, thanks.

Darksider94, let us know the HDD test results.

You should remove the CPU cooler, clean the old thermal paste, apply new thermal paste, re-install the CPU cooler.

Then, Run RealTemp check idle temps first, if they are in the upper 20's°C to mid 30's°C, then run Prime95 to see where the high temp levels off at, don't let it go over 72°C.
It should run Prime95 in the low to mid 60's°C at the most.

Let us know if you have any questions.

I'm getting so pissed right now. I just went through 2 discs and can't make the damn disc bootable so that it'll run the program when i put the damn disc in. I'm using CD-R discs.

I haven't run the test yet because of this....

If you downloaded the ISO file, you can use an iso burning software like imgburn, or just click on the ISO and Windows disk image burner will open, just click burn. If you downloaded the .ZIP file, right click on it and select extract, in the extracted file you will see the ISO. Follow the same procedure. Put the disk in and restart the computer, at the Dell logo screen push the 1 time boot options key (usually F12 for Dell), use the up down key and select your Cd/DVD drive and press enter. It should boot from the CD. You have to burn the ISO to the CD to make it bootable, you can't copy it. I hope this helps.

I've been using Nero to burn it as a bootable CD-ROM with the ISO. I'll try again with Windows Disc Image Burner then. And yeah, i was doing the F12 and choosing the right drive. It just wouldn't do anything.

Nero should have worked as long as it burned it to the cd.
