Windows 7 tested on a Netbook.

Today, Clubic.com (The page of the test is here - FRENCH) tested Windows 7 on a Netbook. They used an Asus EeePC 901.

System Specs :
Intel Atom 270 @ 1.6 GHz
1 GB RAM
SSD Hard drive
Intel GMA 945 graphic chip

Windows Vista were compared on the same netbook.
So, here are the results :

(With Vista, no optimisation were made)

VISTA :
OS installation time : 1h09
Booting : 1min24 (desktop), 1min54 (with gadgets)
Shutdown : 1min26
Launching Firefox : 7sec (page only), 25sec (you can scroll)
Launching Word : 5sec
Launching OpenOffice : 17sec

WINDOWS 7 PRE-BETA :
OS installation time : 1h26
Booting : 1min27 (desktop without gadgets)
Shutdown : 2min0
Launching Firefox : 9sec (page only), 29sec (you can scroll)
Launching Word : 11sec
Launching OpenOffice : 24sec

Looks like it wants a bigger machine... but, according to the video in the link, it takes less RAM than Vista on booting. It's still a pre-beta, it will probably be faster on the final release! And, the netbooks will be more powerful in the next years.

Yes, it takes some time but it works. If you have seen the video (even if you didn't understand anything (but I do understand)), you would have seen that the OS reacts wonderfully. It's only that the applications launching needs work and not only there, but Intel, AMD and other hardwae company need to put better hardare in a little thing like that.

Well my dad just bought a Asus Eee 10" model and it's wonderful.

They have a lot more power than people think. It has windows xp and launches apps very quickly and can even watch tv from my sling box with no lag or any issues at all.

They of course can't play games or do anything to power crazy, but for what it is it sure does the job well.

I consider it the best laptop for under $400!
