Solved How do I know what is the function of some keys in registry?

well yeah, i mean when im in regedit, i want to know what some keys are for... but still it is just a big damn tree, im wondering how some people make tutorials of, how to change an option in desktop!, how did they know that if you modify certain keys you would get X Result? there is any forum about that?

there are lots of subkeys, I have even delete some keys (obviously with backup) to see what it makes or changes in my computer, and some keys dont seem useful like if they are wasting computer space... and i could delete them without suffering "the consequences" LOL

Because they bothered to read up and research, then backup and test, then repeat that all over again. In short, hard work. Try it. And yes, theres a forum for it- its called (google) search.

Trust me, there are reasons for the keys being there, you just don't know what those reasons are. It's best to never fool around in the registry, you are just begging for problems. See, if you want to know about some specific keys, you can google. BUT, theres no standard, centralized database of all possible reg keys which you can keep handy. Per pparks1, dont mess with the registry. Per me, if you want to mess do it with appropriate safeguards. The program which "shows" all the reg hives, keys etc. is regedit. Click start button, in the Run box type regedit, hit Enter.

Well, I've read your post and all I can say is you won't get much joy if you come on here for quick answers when you've messed your system up.......as you surely will.

yes i kow what regedit is -.-, but how a program can depend from registry???
yes i googled it, the answers are inexistent or lame, it sucks, google dont answer everything. (normally i've had googled it than have asked it here (it is faster))

I would say customize it. And I just stated that I Backup the subkeys.

Just about every "program" on your system uses the registry. Included in "programs" is various Windows 7 functions and features. Think of the registry as a storage for parameters that these programs use to control functions. Everything from where a window shows up on the screen to how a program will function on your specific machine. Changing or removing entries through Regedit bypasses the edit function of many of the programs themselves. The registry is where these programs store Preferences and Options that would be set through the program's menu and controls how the program will work--Or not work.

And, as already stated, changes may not show up right away. Or they may show up sooner than you think when the system won't boot or crashes when you try to run a program.

I would say customize it. And I just stated that I Backup the subkeys.

In that case, go and customize to your heart's content, but don't come back bleating you can't get your system to work correctly.

Using your analogy I might as well remove half my car engine because it'll cut down on weight and improve performance.................. I don't think.
