Well hello there,

as the thread title states, no bloody clue whatsoever how to do this. My goal here is to connect to a desktop outside of a local network, i.e. connecting to my home puter from outside networks.

I have Remote Assistance and Connection enabled on the machine I want to connect to, Windows Firewall is up and running and all, but I don't even know how to do this!

Do I need to use an RDP server?

Help por favor.

Hi Coke Robot,
if you want to connect to your home computer from outside then you need some things to be in place. Firstly how do you connect to the internet is it through a dsl router if so most probably you would be getting a dynamic IP address. in this scenario you would need to setup dynamic dns to map your dynamic ip address to a host name. you can do this from dyndns-org.com

On your router you must then do a port forwarding to port 3389 ( RDP Port Number)

Also from your windows firewall you need to allow Remote Desktop ( select the check mark on it).

after all this is done then you can use remote desktop to connect to your pc.

if you do get stuck in any of these drop a reply i will show you how to go about it step by step

Cheers !!
