Yes, the space it requires on disk is huge, Vista was the same. My hardware is more then capable of running it. :)

That doesn't mean I'll stop running it, just disappointed they didn't focus on reducing bloat in disk size.

Hey I know that they can lower the disk size a bit but it could come down to two things....HD size is enormous now and cheap, most new computers come with HDs so big it bewilders me (I have never been able to use more than 60GB....) and the being of 7 compared to XP....7 has alot more code to it because there is more of it....XP is very basic with windows that don't do anything....basic apps included by default (and not many of them)....and very early versions of them as well (without no inclusions of new features or bug fixing or what not)....and a really bad security layer. Maybe if they plan on revamping Windows itself with Windows 8, disk usage might come back into the spotlight (but I highly doubt it)

I guess the ones who are disappointed with W7 because they think there's just a few UI changes and tweaks really haven't read about (or understand) the changes to the core of the system, and are only relying on what they "See".
There have been MAJOR kernel upgrades that make 7 more stable and secure over both older OS's, and so many other function changes that are too numerous to list right now. Maybe you guys should find out what's changed under the hood and not just at the paint job before making those statements.

I must say, that's a front loaded poll. I obviously answered yes, and on a forum called "seven forum", I expect that poll to be 20-1 ratio on YES!

If one takes in to consideration that every launch of every new OS by MS was riddled with bugs and incompatibilities, took at least 3 SP's to get it halfway working, i find it remarkable that windows 7 was 90% compatible and relatively bugfree right of the bat.

People can fill pages with stories how the win 7 kernel is all 'new' and 'rebuild' but MS's history makes that extremely unlikely to put it mildly.

From simple deduction one can easily see that Win 7 is Vista SP3 with a slightly altered GUI and some extra (pretty, but hardly innovative) goodies.

Put against Vista SP2 it performs pretty even keel, Vista is as stable if not more so since the drivers are way more complete for Vista.

So, i say, 7 is a mild improvement over Vista in some lesser important but very visible departments. Since beauty is in the eye of the beholder rationality goes overboard and 7 gets hyped to the sky.

I'd install it, if it were next to free ($20 about) as a paid SP for Vista.

Other then that i don't see the point.

I agree. 7 is definitely better, although Vista runs very well here. If I didn't have a technet subscription I wouldn't be in a great hurry to upgrade if I had to pay full price.

more important: who gives a damn.
I look at results, not if there's a 'micro'kernel (whatever that may mean in realistic everyday usage terms:confused:) that drives it.

This phraseology makes me think of 'moisterizing cream with nanotechnology' or 'deodorant with all new silver particles' ad's

Hummmm … Comparing to XP …

M$ has forgot there’s a difference in the display of, and the purpose, for Icons and Thumbnails ..
( I can’t use my customized Irfanview Icons on my desktop )
You can’t customize the file type R click context menus anymore ..
You can’t create new task bars and park them on any edge of your screen(s)..
Email, Photo Editing, and Movie Making programs have been removed ..
Last I looked, Shrink doesn’t work because Defrag doesn’t work ..

But Hey .. It’s pretty and has some gadgets and toys to play with ..
(but themes, gadgets and toys can be added to XP)

I got a new Vista computer and "upgraded" it to XP MCE …
Sure glad I did that while I can.

I can’t figure out what M$ is up to .. (besides making money) ..
And what Ya’ll are getting so excited about.

768 MB RAM? I have 1 GB RAM and It still lags like hell when I try playing a game like Soldier Front on 7. It works like a charm on XP though. If you have a high end PC, go for it. If you don't, then XP should be your first choice. Really Depends. But I like 7 a lot personally.
