This is weird, I installed Windows Vista Business on a partition on my laptop...but my Windows 7 is now shot. For some reason all the settings are the same as the Business settings, I mean even the wallpaper changed...Now I cant even go to the control panel on 7 since it says that explorer.exe isn'r running but in the task manager it is.

As I said above, it is considered not genuine.\

I put the disc in and ran the startup repair, which it found problems and fixed them but the same problems still occur. My Windows Vista Home Premium has not been affected by this at all, still runs great without a hitch, no setting changes either.

Any advice would be great, if a reinstall is needed, I will just remove it from the pc. If that would be necessary how would I delete that partition even with a windows installation on it?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Blackhawk,

Have you by any chance installed a watermark remover (downloaded)? There have been many reports of downloaded watermark removers causing severe issues.

No I havent. I downloaded the RC 7100 64-bit directly from microsoft when it was able to be tested. This happened today all of a sudden, it was working after I installed the Business but all of a sudden it just happened. I have never needed to download a watermark remover since all of my software is legal.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I dont understand how a legit Win7 decides to be considered to be not genuine. I cant even access my computer or the control panel or any programs. I comes up some error when I try, somethings like explorer.exe isnt working. And my symantecs touch pad enhancements stop working on boot?

Any idea what the issue is here? Is this because of it being an RC? I have read numerous forums with this issue and it seems to be an issue that is a secret or something that can only be fixed by reinstalling the RC. Is this something that will be carried on to the RTM possibly? I dont want to buy the upgrade and find out that 2 months later I have to reinstalled because it is considered not genuine even though it is completely legal.

Makes me wonder if it is any better than the other OS's when they decided to crap out they have to be reinstalled anyway.

I had a similar problem on a friends computer that I installed Windows 7 on. He started getting messages about not being genuine windows and limited access to some programs.
What happened was when I installed Windows 7 for him we did not have internet access and I was unable to activate the program and after a certain amount of time not being activated it started acting up. I simply activated his copy online and all is well now. Is it possible your copy of Win7 is not activated?

Makes me wonder if it is any better than the other OS's when they decided to crap out they have to be reinstalled anyway.

Ive had the same problem with a few builds , Ive tried 'sfc /scannow' ( but that froze and crashed on me  ) Even tried repair disks and system restore well .

Finally i just reinstalled as it only takes 20 Min's. I'm dual booting so its not an issue for me as i have all my important stuff/appz on Vista .

I think its down to activation, Ive noticed on some builds you have to keep on re-activating it with the RC key every so often. If not the activation timer kicks in. Not sure if anyone else has noticed that ?

Unfortunately no W7 builds are guaranteed to work and be 100% bug free, Even the Release Candidate.

RTM has not been released yet so in a way we are all just guinea pigs.:D

In case you 'accidentally' installed Office using a 'borrowed' key, it will disable your Win7 validation. The only way to correct this problem is to reinstall 7.

I just finished reinstalling windows 7 and now it says that it is activated and it working properly. Everything was messed up but now seems fine. I hope that this isnt an on going issue possibly?
