Just a off topic question:

I thought this is a Windows forum ? No console will surpass PC hardware

Lower then my current PC if released next year like the new playstation(so I read on the internet)... or even the year after... consoles have to be cheap they won't have the best hardware this time arround even on launch or people just won't buy it, check the price of the Xbox 360 on ebay, people won't be willing to get a new console for more than $500, even worst now with the crisis in the US, the 3DS already had a price drop and even the PS3 had another one

As for the question I'm expecting from the PS4 a new version of the Cell with the same amount of processing, and about 1GB of video on GDDR4 (at least), a 500GB HDD, and at least 2 to 3 Gigs of ram

on the New Xbox (insert viral name here) I expect a quad core of about 3 generation from current, and about the same on video and memory, I also expect a harddrive on every unit and a blue-ray player this time arround

on comparison I expect the new consoles to have about the power of a 550 Ti or even a lil bit less, I wish they had the power of my GTX 580 but that ain't gonna happen

On a side note: Please some mod move this to general discussion...

Even if it is released next year using two year old hardware, the main point will be that it will be 10x faster with 4+ times the resolution and 10 times the GPU power of the now 6+ year old Xbox!

I'm sure it'll /actually/ be full 1080p (not 720x480 updscaled in nearly all cases)

Hopefully have a bluray.

CPU will be intel or intel compatible and it will be running windows 8.

Will be nice if the deliver on the ability to take a console game disk and play it on your PC but political rather than technical issues may prevent that from happening.

You know, even if the new Xbox gets released today, using the best possible hardware from last year, it will still suck in a year or two and bog down developers, as was already the case ;)
I'd rather spend that $500 (at least) on upgrading the PC :)

Actually that is 480p-ish, 720p (average resolution for the PS3 and 360) is 1280x720, and it sucks if you try to play up close to the screen. So it will be a bit more than 2x the current resolution, there are a few games on the PS3 that play at 1080p native, but the one that I have at least don't have any anti-aliasing what so ever... so it's a bit jagged even in 1080p (not upscaled), the game in question is wipeout HD fury (or something like that), and Windows 8 as far as I can tell is windows 7 with tablet support, I won't be upgrading if that is all MS has to offer (search on youtube and you'll get what I mean, there is a 1 hours video demo of the new windows), the processor most likely will be (as sony) an IBM, I still think it will not be nearly as powerful as a high end gaming rig if it were to come out next year or so, I'm up for waiting a bit more, at least 2 more generations from AMD and nVidia, but... sony will push it and microsoft will follow (or lose market), even if I would hope for it not to happen!

You know, even if the new Xbox gets released today, using the best possible hardware from last year, it will still suck in a year or two and bog down developers, as was already the case ;)

Well, that is true but it's not cheap to keep up with hardware! And most people are happy by just being able to play the game without lag, consoles are cheap, stable and easy! That is why they are alot more popular then PC as a gaming platform, that ain't gonna change... ever, but PC is not going to die as well (as some people seems to think)

I also prefer to play with a pad (even on PC), I mean RTSs and FPSs are best played with a keyboard and mouse, and if the port is any good most games can be played with keyboard and mouse... something like Tomb Raider underworld is not... I tried both ways and I rather play with my Dual Shock 3 (using DS3 Tool and emulating a 360 pad)

Side note: This is thus far a very calm and elegant conversation, I might be too used to youtube comments because I'm finding this surprising! :D

I'm a PC user and I have consoles, PS3 and a 360. I like the simplicity of being able to buy a game and know that it will play on my console just like it will on any other console. Xbox's had a huge RROD problem, that's right...but they have had it fixed for quite some time.

My game consoles are heavily utilized at my house, not only for games...but also for Netflix, hulu, etc.

I like my consoles, they serve me well, I do, none the less, prefer PC, you know 60 FPS 100% of the time is nice, 1080p all the time is nice, 32x AA + 8x SSAA is nice as well, I play uncharted on PS3 because I can't play it on PC, but it does look nice I gotta say
, overall I also like consoles, also don't think they're for kids (even tho, kids buy them alot...) I'm on my 20s and a happy gamer with anything that play games (aside from apple stuff... do not like apple at all)

Outside of the US can't use any of the above

No consoles here, all PC gaming.
But, I jhave been considering picking up a XBOX or PS3, simply because theres some games that are exclusive to them, that never come to PC.

I have nothing against either, but would just rather game on PC.

Would be nice nice so that given the choice, I could get the game for PC. If no choice I have a console to play.

Still not sure which would be better overall.

The last time we had an "overall" discussion about gaming platforms, I pointed out a simple fact that, I am sure, everyone (sane and reasonable) can agree on: A gaming console's worth is measured in its exclusives.
The extra features for playing videos and music don't really count, because the console is basically a small, hardware-locked PC; it can do nothing better than the PC, assuming that you're not living in "the stone age" and actually have hardware more basic than the one found in consoles today.

This is why, no matter what the specs of the new Xbox and PS4 will be, those consoles will be awesome, probably even better than most PC users can afford for an actual PC... for a year or two. Then the developers who will want to push their multiplatform releases would get into the same loophole as before, downgrading graphics and possibilities to make the game compatible, and once again, those consoles will only be as worthy as their exclusives.

This is why I'd like to have a console and be able to play stuff like Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted etc. (even though those might not be necessarily really that epic or anything)

I have doubts the "new" consoles will be better than the PC i'm running atm let alone what I will be running by the time the "new" consoles are released.

Consoles hold back PC games period. I don't dispute there is a place for them as you have no need to update anything as the games are developed for a locked platform but the developers also have no need to push boundaries either as consoles wouldn't run them. They currently can't run any DX11 games e.g. because consoles don't support DX11 hence why so many games recently released for PC's run DX9 etc.

It won't matter in any case how good/capable the "new" console is it will be dated in 2 years after release. Granted if you want to have a larger library of games owning one makes sense.

Anyways this is sidetracking the thread..and btw I started playing games with consoles before I realised how much better it is to play on a PC particularly seeing that my games of choice are FPS and nothing beats a KB/M for shooters :)

It as simple as that if you can afford a high end PC, you most likely can afford a console or 2 therefore I think it's better to just have everything, but if you do have to choose and you don't have much money, it's not like a $500 gaming PC will be amazing, but it's still doable, but when you compare to a console in terms of value (for gaming) a console wins on the lowest price range, but a PC can be used to much more then gaming... I'm rumbling a bit... I hope you guys can get my point here :D

Some people actually think it's really complicated to use a PC !

Anyways this is sidetracking the thread..and btw I started playing games with consoles before I realised how much better it is to play on a PC particularly seeing that my games of choice are FPS and nothing beats a KB/M for shooters :)

Agreed

On a Side Note: I now want a console that plays in 1080p and has support for keyboard and mouse... that would be really sweet, a cheap gaming "computer" magiga thingga that "normal" people can use, I'm calling it now Nintendo, just do it!

On a Side Note to the Side Note: Does anyone wants to play Dead Island? you're all saving for BF3 aren't you?;)
