Can I change gamepad buttons at driver level?

Hi guys and gals, I have a slight problem and I wanted to ask you for help...

I recently installed Matrix: The Path of Neo, which is a great game, but its PC port is horrible.

The problem is, the game detects any gamepad and maps its buttons automatically, with no options to change the buttons.

So, the game uses the right analog stick to manipulate the camera but the X and the Y axis are switched so, what I wanted to do was to make Windows 'think' that the X axis is the Y axis and vice-versa.

I already searched the internet and couldn't find any program that did this (xpadder, pinnacle game profiler, motionjoy, joytokey, none work)... Can anyone help me here?

Can anyone suggest a good program or way to do this?

Thanks!

OMG, I played this game on PS2 like a 1000 years ago, it was indeed good (for a movie cash in), simple question: Can you just change the keys or turn the gamepad support of from withing the game?

I think you can use the command calibration to "change" how the controller operates, don't know if it's a good idea tho

where did you get this game?

on a side note: I own Xpadder and PGP, I was also a part of the team who helped the dev when Xpadder was free (5.3 look for on google if needed), and those are good programs to have if you want to have a Pad for media control and another for playing :D

Most of my games are on steam (not anymore, DTD, Games for windows, gammersgate, Origins... it's all over the place now)
Xpadder should do what you want it to although it can be quite laggy, there is a free version floating round google so give it a try.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

where did you get this game?

My brother got it from ebay some time ago, nearly free xD.

In desperation, I already tried making windows calibrate the X axis in place of the Y and vice versa but to no effect...

As for Xpadder, I had the impression that it was always free and it had ceased development!? I have xpadder here but it can't switch gamepad buttons so it's no use.

Actually, I tried one thing:

With the pad unplugged, I booted Path of Neo, then, ALT + TABbed out to windows, pluged in my gamepad, opened xpadder, assigned the game keys to buttons and waited 5 minutes while the game ALT + TABbed back again.

Now, because this game doesn't like me, the character control by keyboard (and thus, my pad emulating that in xpadder, even with analog) is very jerky. But that's not the bad part. The worse is that the game now, because it's not recognizing a gamepad, doesn't have auto aim and I'm forced to switch to keyboard and mouse whenever a guy with a gun comes up or try to control the mouse with my right stick (which controls horribly).

I hope somedy could understand my gibberish ;)

I do understand, actually... Do you by any chance have a PS3 Dual Shock 3 controller? if not what is the brand of gamepad you're using? if it's a generic one it might be really hard to actually make the change, you could just get used to the inverted axis (would be easier actually), I usually don't change games settings I just get used to it unless it's up and down that is inverted (but that is me:) )

Xpadder is still under development I talked to the dev 2 days ago about letting me redesign his home page, it's rather ugly IMO, and the PGP is getting updates every week, in the future with the 360 pad support to every new game those 2 software will be rendered useless

I'm drifting... if you have a dual shock 3 you can use DS3 Tools to change pretty much anything, I use it so I can attest that is easy to use, Still can't make it go wireless, I need a "proper dongle" I already got and tried 3 different ones... but with a cord all is well with the world! Just plug and open the software and magic happens, then you can change whatever you want or even (the best part) emulate a 360 controller

On a side note: I'm thinking about buying Dead island does anyone want to play co-op on that game? I even have a steam group called co-op lovers (weird ass name, I know), that is all, a bit off topic but I always am...

There's no shame in loving co-op :p

Actually, my gamepad is a Playstation 1 pad with a converter that propelly detects all buttons and axes but not the vibration function.

It kind of annoys me all this use of the x360 pad. There's plenty of other good pads out there that just need some decent support from games.

Anyway:

I already tried configuring the pad in PGP but to no use. DS3 didn't work with this pad too, which is a shame since it does pretty much everything I could ever want.

I already though about downloading a x360 pad emulator but I heard that that pad is also weird on Path of Neo.

The problem is that the right analog stick, which controls the camera, is switched, making the X axis (left-right) move the camera up and down and the the Y axis (up-down) move the camera left and right.
On a fighting/shooting game like this, this screws with my brain in ways I cannot describe! What a mess.
There are other buttons that are changed too but the camera is the thing that's ruining the game for me.
