The little icons beside each of my favorites are starting to get scrambled - the icon from one site will appear as the icon for another site. I've tried going into Tools>Internet Options>Advanced and resetting Internet Explorer settings, but that didn't work. Any ideas how to solve this one?

Hello awjoe

Easiest way would be to remove the ones that have become mixed up then reload the web pages and save them again as bookmarks.

I tried that. It didn't work. When I reloaded the deleted-and-reinstalled bookmarks, they loaded with the *same* wrong icon.

If I uninstall and reinstall IE8, might that work? Where does IE8 keep the information about icons and favorites? Or does this stuff go deeper? Is it a registry issue?

That's a little drastic at this point. Is there any reason you haven't updated to IE9.Try deleting them directly from your favourites folder rather from within IE.

Haven't got around to it because IE8 has been working for me.

Try deleting them directly from your favourites folder rather from within IE.

Yeah, that's worth a try. Can you tell me where I can find the favorites folder?

It should be in your users directory C:\Users\Username.Just click your profile name at the top of the start menu the folder should be there.

Thanks, Danny. But no, that didn't work, either. The browser even loads the icon with the URL at the top of the page and also on the tab for the page. This problem is deeper than the Favorites folder.

Here are a couple of Favorites tutorials that might point to the solution:
How to Restore the Default Favorite Links in Windows 7 Navigation Pane
How to Change the Default Icon for Favorites in Windows 7

If the above doesn't help, I know this might be a stretch, but could 'file associations' be relevant to this problem, and if so, would either of these tutorials help:

How to Set Default Associations for a Program in Windows 7
Restore Default Windows 7 File Extension Type Associations

And PS awjoe, since you're going through all of this trouble anyway, maybe, as the other members have suggested, it IS a good time to consider updating to IE9.

Imperfect, I'll check out those tutorials, just for the satisfaction of seeing if I can track the problem down. But to tell the truth, when I'm done, I think I'll switch to IE9. The question I've got about making the switch is this: if I save my Favorites and migrate them to IE9, what are the chances of the problem being transferred to the new browser?
