I could be wrong, but I think Windows 7 is going to have a longer lifespan than Vista. Probably as long as XP's, maybe even longer. If people like Windows 7 as much as the testers have, MS will have no reason to push out other OS ASAP.

Very possibly. Which makes sense if Eight is still 4 or 5 years away.

A lot of excellent points made here. I agree with those that say Windows 7 will have a long life much like XP. The world will be very impressed with 7. As they say, you ain't seen nothing yet.

On the subject of Windows 8, they have a long way to go but I suspect that some folks are testing pre-alpha builds today. This is the time to tell Microsoft what you would expect to have in this future OS. They'll probably ignore most of what we suggest but what the heck, it least we can try. The folks at Geeksmack have compiled a decent list so far if you want to check it out. I guess we need to get one started here too.

PS. I am not necessarily promoting another forum, it is just pertinent to this discussion. :)

@dew1 - I am trying figure out what your post means. I have Connect and I'm in the Ecosystem program. (I am on Technet and Partner access). That screen on Connect has been there for many days. What does that have to with conjecture about Windows 8?

Why is MS releasing OSes like machine gun fire? Once you get 7, there's 8. Once you buy 8, there's 9. I think people were fine when they still had 5, even though it wasn't as fresh after a 5 year run. 6 was really a flop, according to some people.

It's just like Apple. Release 1g the first day, then a month later there's the 3g.

Upgrading OSes is a pain too. People claim you should do a clean install. However, what if you want to keep your settings? Well, you can, however a install over a current installation of an OS can result in performance decreases, errors, etc.

Maybe MS should sell upgrade packs .... you want this feature, you buy it and install it. You want DX10, you buy it and install it. You want aero, buy it. You want instant search, buy it.

TechOutsider,

Well, you could just by pass Win 7 and wait for 8. Remember just because there is an update to an operating system you don't have to update. Or if you want to keep your old settings you can dual boot then you have the best of both old and new. :D

Also, as a Mac user since OS 6.2 (Mac Plus) days it seems that I am always waiting for the next update, it has become an addiction. . ."Yes I am an Addict." :roflmao:

Again, the cycle is 3 - 5 years. That is a long time! What if you had the same exact clothing for that long? Boring right? You want a change.

And I believe they thought of that, but turned it down. In the long run, that would be a lot harder.
