adding 4 gigs of ram question

I have a Gigabyte P55M-UD2 Motherboard running 4 gigs of ram has anyone with this same board ran 8 gigs without problems? Here is the ram I plan to double. The only thing that might happen is that it can affect your overclock, you will not see any drastic difference in normal every day things. What is your main use of the computer?

The wife plays Farm Town & Bingo on FaceBook and I usually just browse the net to a lot of gun forums I'm a member of etc. I guess about the most load is used when we burn DVDs. Also, I don't overclock just run standard instead of Turbo mode. Thanks!

What's your reasons for wanting another 4 GB? Based on your usages, you shouldn't even come close to maxing out the 4 GB you have now.

No real reason I guess I just noticed a lot of the new pcs coming out now even lap tops have 6-8 gigs of ram. I have lots of grand kids and I never know when they may want to try some high speed game or something that may require an increase in resources. I've always went overkill on the power supplies of stereo amplifiers and other components such as my pcs etc. I guess, just more for reserve power reasons than anything. Like the old saying, I'd rather have it and not need it then, to need it and not have it. Thanks Again!

To be Frank,

Your not going to need any more than 4gig ram. I have been using 4gig for the past 4 years and when Windows 7 came out it started using it, Only reasons I would get more ram is if i started encoding Large Video files Or having lots of programs open. Most games at this time don't even use that amount amount of ram net allown ask for it.

But if you did a Google search for your motherboard Using the "Gigabyte P55M-UD2" that you gave us you would be able too see what your motherboard was ok with.

Well, I ordered the memory before, I got several replies from those more educated in computers than I so I guess I should have waited a little longer. Oh well, I guess if I have a stick or two go bad I will still have plenty for back up. I may not even install them and just keep them for backup or maybe, another build sometime. Thanks for all the advice folks! I'd really like to try a SSD sometime but got to start saving them pennies first.

Enjoy that ram and don't look back. If you are ever photo editing and the like you can notice the extra capacity, but ram has fallen in price and will continue to as predicted you can hardly not grab more. Yes do save for that SSD as it is a transformational purchase in every respect and once you flash drive you'll never want to go back to spinners..........

I'm even more in favor of not using the memory. Since you ordered it already, send it back and put that money towards your savings for an SSD. That will have a much more noticeable impact than the memory.

That does make sense but, I'm suppose to build a tower for a friend so I guess I could just charge it to him and just select the rest of the hardware to be compatible for his build. Am I correct in assuming that the SSD doesn't give any improvements in browsing speeds? But, I still want one anyway. Thanks!

You are correct, but a SSD is an amazing invention, but expensive, WORTH EVERY PENNY!

RAM is cheap at the moment but I think you are right in selling it to a friend

Yes, the SSD won't have any affect on browsing, per se, but it will speed up your entire system, from boot times to how long it takes to open applications.

An SSD is probably the biggest improvement to any system. It will speed everything up and make the system feel so much more responsive. It will open your browser much faster, but like Deacon said, it won't help your internet speed. It will still be up to your connection.
