Hello all,

I have bad sector on the hard disk as a snip,

HD diagnos HD tune.png

Are there any tool do random fill just at bad sector cluster, please ? If there is no such tool , could you recommend the utility for normal random fill ?

Using other tools also results in fail test on S.M.A.R.T and surface test indicating rapid approach failure , could random fill or zero fill actually solve this problem ?

I need .iso file since window is hanging and unable to completely recover now.

Please kindly advise and and more information about S.M.A.R.T and surface test failure would be appreciate.

Regards,

Edit : typo , i actually need tool to do zero fill just at bad sector cluster or random fill for whole hard disk in .iso file.

@theog, thank you very much for useful information. In case of replacing the HD I would think about wiping the data before claim.

Does anyone know random fill tool which is .iso file , please? (since window is loading very slow which i am aware of time consumption and freezing during perform)

Besides, i would prefer to do just one pass as I am not pretty sure whether doing several times zero fill would effect the drive or even one pass random fill would void warranty as acer does not confirm yet WD corp suggest to wipe data prior to replacement.(warranty depends on Acer )

To All, if anyone ever claimed HD with acer please kindly inform whether random fill would void warranty.

Additionally, does anyone know the tool which could be able to identify whether the HD is new device not refurbishment without disassembly the laptop, please ?

Please kindly advise,

@ Corazon , I check active@kill disk as your link provided yet found that trial of Pro version provide the same feature as free which allow just zero fill not random filling algorithm , thank you anyway :)

No, filling the drive with random data wouldn't void your warranty (why would it?)
If I am not mistaken, I think I have seen some conflict information about wiping the tool. From Brink clean all tutorial indicates that zero fill might reduce life’s span of SSD yet no information for HD while WD informs that there is no limitation on writing zero on the drive yet without technical information supported why or why not unlimited time to zero fill would damage the drive yet I have seen some thread informing that normally the HD itself might have defect since they were from manufacturer and reprocess then “degrade” the product for various HD customer according to customer spec.

Besides , I found some alternative freeware to check the disk . It is not definitely identify the drive as ‘new device ’ or ‘refurbishment’ instead showing the power on time and estimated remaining life time HDSentinel Free 3.30 free download - Downloads - freeware, shareware, software trials, evaluations - PC & Tech Authority Downloads

@ Britton30, thank you for command line suggestion ;nonetheless, according to clean all or zero filling, I have seen some thread elsewhere indicates that with one pass zero fill , the data is still retrievable since the hard disk was fill in pattern , one pass random fill is more secure and the data is harder to be retrieved.

@ Layback Bear , I have run checkdisk before , the log file shows bad sector View attachment check disk log file.txt and now having problem about read and write and further diagnose with several tools led to fail test as indicated above.

Are there any suggestion about random fill tool (.iso) or other alternative one pass wiping utilities , please ?

Regarding to HD claim, " filling the drive with random data wouldn't void your warranty " information is from custom-built user , the warranty might depends on WD corp or others since it is OEM.

Therefore , to Acer user whoever come across this thread and ever claim HD under Acer warranty please kindly confirm whether random filling or alternative wiping HD would void warranty.

If it was my computer I would save the things I wanted and replace the hard drive. Any time that many programs used to check a hard drive indicate a failing hard drive one only has to wait and it will fail.
