Hey look the whole idea of having something you hold in your hand is quite beyond me - it's a gadget for goodness sake and what about what I said before re those with failing eyesight - that LIKE a large box and screen that like to build their own - don't we live in a free world (to a larger extent) and choose what we want.

I was starting to get bummed I probably won't be able to get a new PC with W8 on it. Now I don't feel so bad. On all these commercials all I ever see are 4 operations:

Move
Resize
Select

Nobody ever types in any text. I guess you need a microphone with voice recognition for that. Plus you have to lug around a bottle of Windex and paper towels to clean off the finger prints.

maybe for your everyday joe shmoe who only checks email, browses the web, and plays media having only a phone/laptop/tablet will work. however anybody who does any serious developing will still be much better off with a desktop. the small screens on laptops and phones generally make it a pain to work on large codes. personally i don't trust the cloud to anything other than movies/music/pictures. you wont catch me uploading any sensitive information voluntarily. people not in the know will trust anything they see on TV lol

That is sadly true, but here I see more people that are not with the cloud than people that agree or could agree... I really suspect why they urge us to migrate into the cloud, even if they say that this is going against piracy, this involves much more that just that...

You're not paranoid, if they ARE out to get you.

The whole point of the "Cloud" is to re-concentrate power (knowledge) back into the hands of the Corporations and Government.

Take the WikiLeaks debacle as an example.
Instead of saying that the Government should be "cleaned up", politicians started saying that Julian Assange should be hunted down, imprisoned and/or killed!

These companies want your data, so that they can "accidentally" sift through it and sell the results to someone else.

Troublemakers and criminals KNOW where Google, MS, etc. "live".
If they want my PC they have to search for me.
It's not worth their time and effort (hence social engineered malware).
If they DOS me, that only inconveniences me.
If they DOS a "Cloud" company, it inconveniences thousands (or millions) of people.

SLAs only apply AFTER a disaster has occurred.
I bet there are many exception clauses in them (just like insurance policies).

Bit of a joke

Saw on our local national news broadcaster this am an American fellow whose name I didn't quite catch - came in on the the end of the discussion, and he was telling us all that he had just come back from China where in a gigantic factory that Nokia, Apple, Sony etc ed nauseum were working kids as young as 12 on production lines for everyones favourite gadgets - toys in my view.

This all on production lines that were within feet of each other I sometimes think I am living in another universe - next we'll have kids down coal mines again.

Poor little buggas has to work so intensively (and cheaply) that their finger joints were breaking down so whenever I see someone with one of these damn toys I am going to get quite irate.

So those in favour of these wretched "things" can play to their hearts delight - it's sick just very sick and an obscenity.

I am all for advancement and not some raving socialist but this is an aberration in my mind. I guess the same thing happens with PC stuff as well but in my mind at least they have a place in the grand scheme of things, and serve a useful purpose.
