For the nth time, they keep saying the PC is dead.

I'm still waiting for Facebook to die, taking a little too long.

No, it'll hang on forever... in the short term FB and G+ will probably achieve parity (Well i nthe next couple of years) and then we will be fighting the situation where half the people you know are on one but not the other so youhave to get both and check both if family is on FB and friends on G+.

And of course there will be bitter rivalry and animosity between them so any programs that attempt to consolodate the two into a single interface will be constantly attacked legally and through rapid API changes designed to break third party software.

You know... The same OLD story. :)

I'm still waiting for Facebook to die, taking a little too long.

Facebook will appear to continue until the next good social media site catches on with significant improvements. Myspace was sort of the start of the whole thing and I'm certain as you are that FB won't be the end all.

The issues FB users face are primarily security-related and the ability to sort through hundreds of entries when they have a massive friend-list. It's still convenient in such that they can keep in touch with people. However I find it less meaningful for those with friends lists with over 500+ if you know what I mean. FB is the modern chat room.

Hmmmmm

Well for the VERY short time that I went on "Off Your Facebook" I saw enough to turn my stomach especially some of the language - if you can call some of it language.

Some of the drivel that was posted was in my mind completely inane and the site and similar ones including "Twatter" is meant for individuals who have nothing else better to do than prattle on about incredibly monotonous and boring rubbish that is there for everyone else to see. As for those "games" that some play well I reckon you really do need something to do or are a sandwiche short of a picnic!

Myself I can see nothing wrong with good old email, private message through a forum, and the phone or just go and see the person you want to communicate with.

That fellow whose name escapes me (not hard to forget that one) must be laughing all the way to the bank on the back of the drones that use this useless venue of "?communication?

Hi there

Just come out of a great pub in Brussels where loads of people were watching Chelsea vs Norwich premiership football, the Begian Grand prix Formula 1 qualifying, England vs Ireland Rugby and a load of other sports all being shown on the huge numbers of TV sets in the bar (Called the "6 Nations" --execellent drinking establishment in centre of Brussels right near the Grand Place / "Grote Markt)".

What I did notice was some people (about 2 out of 200 or so) seemed to prefer their 3,000 or so virtual friends on Facebook rather than communicate with most of the "Real Humans" in a great lively pub enjoying themselves and speaking to each other who they hadn't met before watching various sports.

To me I'd be very happy to see the end of facebook too -- at least ban it in bars where people can speak to other REAL humans.

Cheers
jimbo

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"

It's a bit like the race that was cursed with Telepathy (in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy").
They had to chatter inanely (and constantly) so that they couldn't hear other people's thoughts (i.e. their brains would start working).

If people stopped using Facebook, Twitter, etc. their brains might start working.
We couldn't have that now, could we? ;)

You know, if you simply replace the sentence "The PC is dead" with "The glamor of the PC is dead" then the entire thing would be right on the money. Smart mobile devices are the glamor item. PCs used to be (At least Apple and users thought so).

But that in no way means that PCs themselves are dead. They, like cars, are an item of vitual indespensibility for the time being...

Apple again? They should surrender until they can, expensive and limiting equipment will never replace something you can build by yourself. And mobile devices are just that, mobile, and will never replace a PC.

Keep on trying Apple...

Like the Asus Eee Transformer with keyboard docking station. Sitting at your desk and need to go to a meeting. Just unplug the Tablet and go and you have all your information on one unit. I remember when most Laptops had docking stations at your desk to access bigger screens and other peripherals.
