where do i buy Sound activated LEDs that can plug into a wall outlet

I am working on my rig and thought it would be cool to have my desk light up orange when a character of mine in GOW, MOH, or COD fires a gun or when an explosion happens. my problem is that I'm looking for some that plug directly into AC and I can't seem to find any. does anyone know where i could purchase sound activated led strips that plug into the wall? It would be good if it is possible to plug multiple into the same socket.

You may have to build your own and use a mic as the trigger for the lights. An old Air Force pal did that and had different colors responding to bass, treble, and high tones. He was an electronics instructor. Some of the google results (I didn't read them) had some build options.

im not a huge fan of the stage style lights, i like the idea of making my own, however i have a bad tennancy of doing things wrong (drasticaly) i am not handy when it comes to stough like that. i have thought of sound activated cristmas lights but i dont like the look. if someone knows of a tutorials iwth EMENSE detail, on how to potntialy make a sound activated led strip using a bread board or somthing that would be helpful.

another idea i have is if some one knows how i could connect some leds and resistors semiperminantly using electrical tape directly to my logitech 70watt bass etc, thats also an idea, however, before i go tampering with my stough, id like to know for shore what i think i know. from what i understan, all i would need are resistors that step down just to a lower voltage than the LEDs need, and obviously some leds, afterthat, the rest just connect genitive to positive and good to go? or more?

I think you should use a power supply which puts out about 9-12V DC.

but it defeats the point wouldnt it? i want it to flash behind my monitors, not inside my computer, if im misunderstanding please say so

Not a computer PSU, some generic step-down transformer type. LEDs usually illuminate at less than 12V DC, so just a resistor wouldn't do it for you. You'd need something to convert your AC to DC. and a powersupply would have the right type of electricity and voltage.

ok, sounds good, are you able to tell me or do you know someone who can tell me or show me how i could set a rig like that up as you desctibed, and do you know how much it would probably cost me?

No I can't. I suspect maybe a Radio Shack store could help you though. Also model trains use such power supplies too and have variable outputs. Radio Shack may have some plans too.

Battery powered you say? Why not build your own adapter to pass electricity from an outlet to the battery terminals on the device? I would not think this would need much more than basic knowledge of electricity.

thats where i run into the problem, my understanding of electricity is very basic. what ive seen people do online that i might try if i can get some endorsement if that makes any sense, someone to say theve tryed it and think it would work with no problems or if there is a flaw in my theory. i have seen people directly take LEDs and they say on the back of the box it should say what size resistor you need, buy that kind of resistor, connect the resistor before the LED and then connect the unit to the -/+ of your speakers. where i find the problem is people have sayd that it has A, blown their speakers, B, blown the resistor, C, blown the LEDs, And D, all of the above. i would like to avoid a $150 mistake at the price of $10 more. so if anyone with some experience of this can explain what i would need to do IN MORE DEPTH, (EG do i need to make sure that the ressistors can handle 70 wats... will the resistor be measured in watts or do i need to turn the 70watts into valts then see if it exceeds the max on the resistor if there even is.) things like that that make a difference as apposed to people on you tube who just say "connect a resistor that is big enough for the led" ok, but what precautions do i take to protect the resistor, and what is big enough. enough restating my point, if anyone can help, i hope i have given an in depth description of what i need help with planning to do.

ok, so i talk to best buy and what they said is that theoreticaly it would work, but without a series of switchs, when i crank the volume it would blow the resistors and leds. the guy i talked to said hes done it and it would be too hard to do as a one man job, but obviously it works for some people online without needing all the switches, so what will work for me. i calculated the max voltage for my speaker system is 120 volts, so if i resisted that much, wouldnt it still work, if the max is 120, turning the volume up wouldnt put it past 120 volts. so why would it blow? radio shack advised me to go to a car sterio installer and see what they say. one thing geek squad mention is that one of them a while back bought some sound activated leds from NewEgg that plug directly into the sound card audio out and are like a third party device that just bypasses the audio but reads the signal and plays the leds to the tune. that might be cool if anyone could help me try to find. or if anyone knows enough about the speaker modding im trying to do to give me some clear cut directions on how to do it. i know these things are really hard somtimes to do because they are so individualized but accentually what i need is for someone to make me a blue print of sort. i need clear cut verry defined reasoning behind why things are done a certain way. what they are protecting me against. and how it would turn out if i follow step by step. i hate when people are vague, it leads to screw ups so. if you think you can help, thank you so much.
