BSOD on file browse, error 0x0000001e

Hi, I was hoping someone may be able to help me with a BSOD error that I am getting. It appears to happen when I try to browse to open a file in an application. For example, when attaching files to this post, if I click on the 'browse' button to open the file I wish to attach the BSOD appears. I can drag and drop the file from Windows Explorer into the attach files popup successfully though. Other instances have been trying to browse to attach a file to an email in Thunderbird and also trying to browse to open a stored database in MS Access.

I am using an Acer Aspire X5900
- Intel i5 650 @ 3.20Ghz CPU
- 8GB RAM
- Windows 7 64 bit
- Nvidia GeForce GT320

Any assistance to resolve this BSOD would be most appreciated.

Related to Kernel Security Support Provider Interface (kscdd.sys) which is an OS file. I would do two things

First run a system file check

Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW

Let us know the results from the report at the end.


Second, I would run the update readiness tool and update to SP-1


Ensure you install the correct 64 or 32bit option for your system)

Thanks very much for your help
I ran the SFC /SCANNOW and that completed with no problems listed.

I downloaded and installed the update readiness tool.

I then went to Windows Updates to get SP1 and got the following error
Windows Update encountered an unknown error C0000022

I also have the issue where I have a Windows not genuine error in the bottom right corner of the screen so I went to activate Windows and got a similar error message, and it appears that Auto Updates has not worked for quite a while.

If possible could you advise or point me toward a forum entry that might help me to get SP1 installed.
