Remove "generic" Windows 7 x64 graphics driver before installing new?

Hello folks. My first post so I'll try to keep it concise. I did a forum search, but found nothing that addresses my particular situation.

I just completed installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The installation went fine and and so far I have no graphic card problems. My card is a Radeon HD 4830 and as of now I'm using the default drivers installed during setup. I'd like to install current ATI drivers and the Catalyst Control Center so I have more settings flexibility. The following is the current driver information from Device Manager.

Driver Provider - ATI Technologies
Driver Date - 4/25/2009
Driver version - 8.56.1.16

I have the new ATI driver package downloaded and ready to install. My question is this. Since the drivers now being used are from ATI, should I or do I need to uninstall them prior to a driver update? I checked in the Add/Remove Programs and there are no ATI entries. If I need to uninstall do I remove from within Device Manager?

I don't want to screw up a perfectly working Win 7 install by doing something stupid. Any advice will be much appreciated.

When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using

Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

Holy cow, that was a quick response. I'll remove from Device Manager and run Driver Sweeper and suggested. Thank you for the fast reply.
