Hi. I have Windows 7 32-bit Ultimate (Italian language) and I'm experiencing a strange bug since a few days. My recently opened .txt files list is not displayed any more.

This used to work before, but now when my mouse pointer is over the little triangle (see 1st pic, where "Blocco note" is "Notepad") nothing happens, and cannot understand why. Other apps are fine (e.g. Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Beyond Compare 3, see 2nd pic) What can I try?

First of all, thanks for your reply.

1) I have recent .txt files, of course. I can even see them in my Recent folder (you can go there by opening a folder and pasting "shell:Recent" in the address bar)

2) These settings are both on:

3) Recent Items are off, but it is what it must be, since I don't want a Recent Items "button", as you may see in my previous post. If I enable it I can see recent .txt files in my general Recent Items list, but still nothing is visibile in my "Notepad recent list".

Unfortunately, nothing else in your links seems to apply to my specific issue.

Where are you saving the .txt files?

In many different folders. I still have dozens of files that previously were correctly linked in this "sidebar". I had at least four .txt files pinned too! I mean not in the taskbar, but in the place I cannot see now (I don't even know if "sidebar" is ok to name it), like "BCSettings..." in the picture I posted.

What's displayed there comes from the Notepad jump list files, which probably means that one of the two files is corrupt. You could delete both files as follows: navigate to
%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
and delete the file "918e0ecb43d17e23.automaticDestinations-ms"
then go to %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations
and delete the file "918e0ecb43d17e23.customDestinations-ms"

Instead of deleting just the two Notepad jump list files you could also proceed as described in

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/81483-jump-lists-reset-clear-all-items.html

by deleting any existing jump list of all programs altogether.

THANKS!!!
Renaming 918e0ecb43d17e23.automaticDestinations-ms file did the trick (first folder was the right one). Now I'm looking into this corupted file trying to find out which were my pinned ones.
Thanks again, I owe you a beer

Solution for 64bit of Windows 7

I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and was facing the same prob.

Deleting the file "9b9cdc69c1c24e2b.automaticDestinations-ms" in %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations did the trick. :)

Thanks heltes :D

Thanks to you both! Just now finding this thread, and it was exactly what I needed to solve my problem, too.
