Okipoki I see where part of the problem is. Your correct Athene it's all to do with perspective and angles.

You will see from the example I've drawn that you have on the left (green arrow) an angle that doesn't correspond to the right hand side (orange arrow) Now you have the angle of the purple background diagonal lines fading into a different angle of the keyboard keys.
So this also means that the light source coming in from different angles will cast shadows in different directions and at different angles.
Now the name Athene is showing straight up but the pen wouldn't wright the name in this way it would show like in the middle picture but the problem is this isn't the correct perspective to the background so it looks a bit out.
It's really hard to explain this in words, but depth of field is quite hard to get correct. If you have ever used a 3D program like 3D Max or something like this, then lighting, angles & perspective is all done for you by the program.

The best way to see how light reacts to objects is by turning off the lights and setting up a desk lamp or two and angling the light in different ways to see how shadows are cast. Use a piece of white cardboard as a background and move it up/down left/right & backwards/forwards to get a better idea. ;)

Nick,
I was looking at the light on the pen only.:(
The light on the pen only would cast a shadow just to the right of the pen.
I have been in the dark room for hours trying this test...Someone locked the door
and I can't get out. H E L P!

Nick, how exactly did you change the text perspective? If you look at the PSD I did, V1.03, it ain't tight.

I'm now intested in Thanksgiving sigs and I need a pic of a turkey. Hard to decide between Dennis and Mike. Of course we have real pics of Dennis....

Nick, how exactly did you change the text perspective? If you look at the PSD I did, V1.03, it ain't tight.

Well in CorelDraw you use the "perspective tool" ("effects" "add perspective") *tip You can only add the drop shadow after you have added the perspective
In Corel Photo paint you just click on the object until the handles turn to arrows like in the pic below then drag them in the direction you want
In Photo Shop you goto "edit" "transform" "perspective" or "distort" *tip if you use text you need to "rasterize" the layer first before using perspective

Hope this helps a bit ;)

Seriously, that male troll in witch outfit is a female? O.o

I didn't mean the witch from the movie, just an avatar of witch with wicked feeling. Probably a drawing, cause one of the things I can't stand is a poor cosplay - if that was what you meant as a real woman witch. Green skin is so halloweeny (yes, that's bad ;)).

EDIT: The second one is better :)

OK, thanks. I have seen the warning to rasterize be for, what is that exactly?

It means when you have a text (or smart) object PS gives you a rasterized image, but it keeps in mind what it is made of. If you rasterize a text and resize it, the more times you resize it the blurrier the text will look. If you resize a text object by changing the text size you will never loose quality, because PS creates a new vector image (path) and a new rasterized prewiev.
You have to rasterize objects before they could be distorted, because distorting a vector image takes significantly more time versus distorting a rasterized image which has finite number of points to work with (unlike a path)
