[ATI Radeon Driver] Cyclic Redundancy Check

Hey guys,

Recently when I booted up my desktop, I get the error from Catalyst Control Center:

"No AMD driver found or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the appropriate driver for your hardware." (Not the actual text, it's what I remember)

(Hence I'm stuck with the generic driver without support for widescreen resolutions)

I went to Device Manager and selected my "ATI Radeon 4800 Series", then clicked 'Update Driver', but I get the following error:

'Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Data error (cyclic redundancy check)'.

I don't think it's the driver file's problem as I downloaded it fresh?

I have no idea what's causing the error.. I don't think it's the video card's problem as it still shows up in my Device Manager, and I've tried System Restore, but I get the error that 'Windows is unable to replace C:\Windows with the backup copy' or something similar. This has led me to suspect that there might be a problem with my hard disk but I'm not sure :/

You issue sounds confusing, first you indicate a video card problem, than you state you might have a hard drive or Windows problem

Also your system specs say Nvidia, but you state you have a 4800 series card

At any rate you can try fixing the video card issue by getting the drivers here for a PC - AMD Graphics Drivers & Software. Download the driver and click the exe and follow the directions for installation - GPU-33: How to install AMD Catalyst

If this is a notebook you'll need to visit that notebook's website and get the drivers there.

Please clarify your system specs and let us know.

I've tried to download from the ATI server too, but I still get an error on installing. I doubt it's the driver's problem..

You issue sounds confusing, first you indicate a video card problem, than you state you might have a hard drive or Windows problem

I said that because that's what I myself speculate, but I'm not sure.

Also your system specs say Nvidia, but you state you have a 4800 series card

I apologize, I switched my computer to a desktop now and I didn't update my computer specs.

If this is a notebook you'll need to visit that notebook's website and get the drivers there.

I've already tried downloading the latest drivers from the AMD website. When the status bar for Catalyst installer goes to 'Installing Driver...', the bar just goes to completion, then restarts, and repeats the cycle for about 10 times, before ending the installation with an error log that states that the driver installation failed.

Please clarify your system specs and let us know.

I've updated my system specs.

I shrank my partition to install a separate copy of Windows on another partition, and it's working fine so far. What I don't get is why it doesn't work on my primary partition. Thanks for all the help so far!

It could be a number of things - from limited space to a corrupt OS. You might consider resintalling the OS on the primary drive.

Good luck.
