We use Netgear because we have a Netgear router - works flawlessly. Probably best to go with one that is from the same make as you router.

We first were using another make (Fritzbox which is a highly rated German make). But we had nothing but trouble with it.

Best is to use one from the same make as the router. But be aware that those extenders have to be placed midway between the router and the PC. Better check first whether that is possible - e.g. electric outlet.

sorry, i misread your post, both pc and router are in basement and you want wifi on second floor.

in that case stick the extender on the first floor, so it will still be in range of the router.

Adding a raptor hdd for gaming use only.
Why do you need an extender when your PC is at the same place as the router. An extender is there to amplify the WiFi signal for a PC that is too far away from the router to üick up the signal.

And what type of router are we talking about anyhow. A "g" router or a "N" router.

halfway in between, on the first floor were the signal is still strong enough from the router.

Look at the box it came in. Else type 192.168.11 into the IE address bar and hit enter. That should bring up your router. User name is "admin", password is "password"

If 11 as last digits does not work, try 1.1. or 0.1.
