Solved CCleaner Vs PowerTools Lite

Hi Folks.

I regularly use CCleaner to tidy up the registry and temp files etc.
I recently downloaded and ran PT Lite and to my amazement it displayed a huge number of obsolete registry entries even after CCleaner had shown none.
Can anyone advise me as to which of these utilities is the safest.

CCleaner has a reputation for not changing the registry in ways that will harm how Windows functions (most of the time). If you are going to use a registry cleaner, many of the users on here that do say that CCleaner is the safer choice.

I've had CCleaner mess up the registry on computers in the past, even to the point that Windows will not run, but this does seem to be an out of the ordinary problem with CCleaner based on the reviews I've read for it. Most people find CCleaner works very well for registry cleaning.

That being said, with any registry cleaner, it is always best to create a system restore point or backup the registry before having it cleaned.

Even with CCleaner take the option to backup any registry entries you delete and keep them until you are sure you wont need them.

It's clear that CCleaner wins the contest, but can anybody explain why it is that PowerTools Lite does as I have described above.

That is because CCleaner takes as close to a risk free approach as it can. Other cleaners are more aggressive.

Typically, it is because the cleaner is doing a more aggressive clean. For the registry, that can be dangerous to how Windows functions. It is probably finding registry entries that no longer are needed or invalid, but it only takes one mistake for Windows and/or software installed on Windows to do weird things.
