Solved How can I set a system restore point like I used to do in windows XP

Hi everyone I am new to these forums and this is my first post . I am using windows 7 ultimate and system is running smoothly but I am afraid things can be messed up .

I could set a restore point in XP I couldn't find same function in windows 7

kindly help in this regard

Hello asifnaz and welcome to Seven Forums.

Slightly off topic but system restore points have limited usage. It's common to find out that programs, drivers, etc that were installed after the restore point was created are gone. You'll have to reinstall them. So by all means, feel free to create some restore points every now and then. But to better safeguard your computer and everything on your hard drive, system images are really the way to go. If you have a catastrophic hard drive failure, or if your machine becomes infected with malware, a system image will restore your computer to exactly the way it was the day the image was made. It's best to store the system image on a different hard drive (I prefer an external drive.) And you could use the built in Windos 7 imaging tool or any number of free imaging programs such as Macrium, Paragon, EaseUS, etc.

I agree about making system images for backup purposes but that is the purpose of restore points. Programs and Windows updates installed after they are created are removed when you use System Recovery to roll the system back.
