BSOD CPU and CPU fans at high speeds when playing games.

Whilst playing games my computer will randomly crash to a black screen , A loud buzzing noise comes through my headphones , the monitor loses reception , the keyboard lights turn off , 50 % of the time the CPU and GPU fans will suddenly speed up drastically.

It seems that the more demanding the game is , the less time before it crashes. e.g If I boot Skyrim up in High detail graphical settings ( my recommended setting) the pc will crash in no longer then 5 minutes (sometimes merely seconds) . However if I play in medium settings I can play for up to Half and hour. I have tested this with many games and have been receiving this problem since purchasing the machine.

In attempt to fix the pc I have :

- Switched 3 GPU Drivers
- Switched RAM slot
- Monitored Temperatures in MSI Afterburner

GPU TEMP: Max 52c minutes before crash.
(please suggest a program to test CPU temps in)

System purchased 3 months ago. All hardware was new , purchased and assembled through a website by professionals .(Whom I'm planning to send back to for repairs if I can't find a solution here)

-Intel i5 2400 3.1 Ghz
-Galaxy 1GB GTX560
-Aywun 500w P.S.U (with case)
-Aywun A1-G03 case
-Samsung Spinpoint 1TB HDD
-Asus PH8-61 MOBO
-Corsair 4GB XMS3 DDR3 RAM (1x4GB) 1333MHz
-Lite-On IHAS324 24x DVDRW Optical Drive
-Windows 7 64 bit Home premium

Uninstall nvidia software\driver,restart in safe mode,run driver sweeper,choose only NVIDIA-Display and clean,restart in normal mode.


Install the new ati software\driver,restart.


Update [/FONT][FONT=&quot]DirectX [/FONT][FONT=&quot]


Run the [/FONT][FONT=&quot]nvidia-video-card-test[/FONT][FONT=&quot],post here the results.[/FONT]

PC crashed within minutes on OCCT. Checked on my hardware again , turns out only the GPU fan increases not the fan in the CPU.

Updated DirectX

Ran GPU tests in OCCT- Graphs in previous post

Ran Memory tests in memtest86 - no errors.

Currently running Prime95 Torture tests.

yes i was but my temps reached 70 in a minute and and i accidentily cancelled because i thought they had gone crazy.. currently running prime95 torture test and have been for 4 hours with no error.

The GPU temps were abnormally high. Bad Cooling may be the issue.

bad cooling in my case or faulty gpu fans?
Btw: Ive had my worrys with this power supply , are there anythings pointing to that as an issue?

Keep always clean\cooling everything inside the case.Use blower or air spray can.


You have a 500W.500W is the minimum for your system.


So,better stronger psu=better unfaltering system.

yeah planning to upgrade the psu- but do you think that could be the root of the problem?
btw- ive been running prime95 and cpu temps are lingering 66-69 is that an indication of a cooling problem?

Not very high temperatures,dont forget,prime stress the hardware.

The worst thing\enemy for hardware are high temperatures.

Keep always clean and cool your system case.

yeah , i have recently cleaned my case out.

do you think the issue could be drivers? resolved with a re-install of windows?
Because it seems to me that after a clean driver install , i can play games on extreme settings for a long time , compared to normally where it would crash within 5 seconds of starting the game.
