My job involves juggling six different pieces of internal software and attention to detail. It's easy to forget that I need to check my email for customer messages each half hour (or thereabouts). The company wants me to use gmail so I can't configure incoming messages to make a sound. Even if I could, it would be better just to do a scheduled check.

Cnet has a ton of reminders and clocks; too many to sort through. Anyone have a suggestion for something that will make a simple sound and pop up a message box on top of whatever I'm doing? I use Win 7 Professional 64bit. Thanks!

The built in Windows task scheduler will do this for you.

Run Schedule Tasks from the task manager. Then Create Task. (Don't use Create Basic Task becuase it diesn't allow recurring tasks quicker than once a day)

Then create a new task to run every day and recur every 30 minutes that displays a message. DONE! :)

I've used PopMan on many Windows flavors. Works on both my Vista64 and W7 32 bit systems. It's free.

PopMan

I have it set to check my mail every 15 minutes, but it's adjustable.
Not sure if it works with gmail but I'd be surprised if it didn't.

It's convenient as it shows the subject lines of the emails. Any that look uninteresting you can delete right on the server without opening, via the PopMan dialog.

I opened the task scheduler but it wanted me to create a path to a specific app. Couldn't figure out how to create my little reminder. Maybe there's an online tutorial somewhere?

On the "New Task" dialog at the top there should be a drop list where you can change it from "Start a Program" "Display a Message"...
