I have an ATi Radeon 9200,

I just did this :

"Install xp driver from the 6.11 catalyst pack manually. It allows me to set my optimal resolution, however i'm not able to shut down my computer regulary, I get blue screen. And sometimes i get blue screen with no reason at all!!"

Does anyone know what's wrong with my computer?:(

When you first installed W7 did Windows install a generic driver for that card? Did the system run as expected with the Windows driver?

If yes then roll back the driver, or uninstall all the ATI software and do a System Restore to a point before you installed the ATI package.

For some of these older cards it is better to just stay with a less fully functional driver that works than it is to run a full driver package that doesn't IMHO.

Welcome to SevenForums

Did you install it using the compatibily mode method http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html

Your card is VERY old so you might want to look into getting a newer one.

One that is compatible with the Win 7 OS.

Now I know this costs money but you can get one fairly in-expensive.

Here is a list of some suppliers in your area. http://www.computerhardware1.com/computer-hardware-suppliers/europe.html

Fabe

No i followed instructions from here but no one knows the answer for that question!!
I just want to know is there any way to solve this problem?I know that my card is VERY old and that i need to look for new one but I don't have money and I don't wan't to! So please,is there any way??

My Question: "When you first installed Windows 7 did Windows install a generic driver for that card? "

Your answer (assumed): No, Windows did not have a generic driver for my card.

My next question: "When you installed the XP 6.11 catalyst drivers for the 9200, did you use Compatibility Mode to start the installation?

There is a very good chance that your card will not work properly with W7. So you have to prepare yourself for that unwelcome news.

But yes, you should try installing the driver any way you can before giving up.

Keep in mind that the catalyst software package contains more modules than just the card driver. Some of the features of the old Catalyst software may not run in W7. So if you try compatibility mode and it does not work to install the entire package, then the next thing to try would be to run the package in compatibility mode, select a Custom install, and try installing the graphics driver only.

If none of that works then you are left with only two unfortunate choices: Buy a compatible video card, or go back to XP. There is no magic fix to incompatible hardware.

Sorry we couldn't get it working for you.

I've got an old machine working here with a Radeon 9200 card in it running XP. And that is where it will stay until it gets sold for parts!

I know this is long out in the future, but I recently got a Radeon 9200 working with Vista x64 by using the Catalyst v6.4 drivers for Windows XP x64 Edition. Versions 5.13 to 6.4 work (without using Aero), but v6.5 and up result in a BSOD on shutdown. I just used the Radeon 9500 driver.
