I dont know where to start. Okay, I bought the game on october but couldnt play it properly because of my on board graphics. I bought Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 1gb DDR3 version a few weeks later and lo ! I could the play the game maxed out ! I played online for over a month until about 3 weeks ago, I started getting BSOD. Initially, I suspected some problem with the patch but it continued. I formatted my PC. After playing some other games for a few days, it came back yet again ! Again I formatted my PC and again BSOD. Finally, last week I formatted my PC one last time. All my drivers were up to date but I suspected my RAM. I had two RAMS from two manufacturers. When I removed kingston, BC2 started running without BSOD. Relief ! But it was shortlived. Again it returned. This time, I formatted my entire Hard disk and started from scratch. Yesterday, I installed BC2 and played it for 2 hours without BSOD but today, it returned again. However, there are no problems with any other games though. My RAM, HD, graphics card etc. are all fine. One more note, some windows files are missing from my PC as well. It has something to do with my windows DVD. Can anyone tell me a possible solution ? I have VIA on board sound. I disabled it and still BSOD.

2x2gb DDR3 1333 mhz RAMs
Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 1gb DDR3

If needed, where can I find dump files and how do I gain access to them ?

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Allright, here are my minidump files :

P.S, BSOD happened twice while playing Battlefield 2, in both cases, it happened after playing it for about 15 minutes.

My PSU is more than sufficient for my graphics card.

One more note, all the errors are coming from ntkrnlpa.exe

Two problems

Please remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, called sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

when you're done you can use this Freeware:

MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM (MagicDisc) in its place

Second Your Kaspersky

I do notice Kaspersky which is a frequent cause of BSOD's. I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO EEST.

Okay, I have uninstalled Alcohol 120. Then I started a full computer scan with my Kaspersky 11 and suddenly, my PC BSODed halfway through the scan. Then my PC just wouldnt start. Thanfully, start repair fixed the issue. Then I said, " That's it ! KIS, you are going down.". I have uninstalled it and then installed Microsoft Security Essentials. So far so good but I will test BC2 in half an hour and report back my results. I hope it works. One more thing, the kaspersky remover didnt even detect kaspersky on my PC.

You are obviously using either Blue screen view of Who crashed. Both have a nasty habit of picking (incorrectly) an OS file. It cant be those or you would never boot.

Try this first

Please remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

Okay, I did what you said but to no effect. Then I read that many games have issues with Win 7. So, I installed Win XP yesterday. I installed BC2, patched it and then played it for 1 hour without any problems. Today morning, I started playing it again BSOD. They were all pointing to ntoskrnl.ex . I was not using KIS 11, Whocrashed, Blue screen viewer etc. I re-installed the OS again. Yet again BSOD occured while playing BC2. Then I removed the display and sound drivers from safe mode and re-installed them. I updated to the latest driver that was released 3 days ago but still no effect. Now I am installing Vista. I read it in a web site that after installing programmes and then installing display and sound driver resolves the issue. I will try it.

Here are the XP dump files,

You are obviously having a hardware issue if all the os'es crash but you are making so many changes in your rush to game again that there is not way to pin down the cause.

Sorry for the rush but I am tired of fighting with my PC for over 3 weeks now :(. Anyways, I have now installed Vista 64 bit OS(first time installed it in 2 years). So far, so good. Everything is normal. First, I installed whatever programmes I needed including BC2 and then I installed the latest Display driver excluding the catalyst driver. Still no problems except that Internet exlorer 7 shuts down when I am trying to open a new tab. Now I started patching the game and whenever it reaches 90%, BSOD again ! I tried it 3 times including a fresh install of the game but BSOD on each occasion. My patch is NOT corrupt. I will test another game tomorrow. I dont have anti virus installed and only just installed Whocrashed to see the report. It says, SYSTEM_EXCEPTION_THREAD or something like that. Here is my only dump file .

P.S Thank you for helping me so far :D

You are going to have to start from scratch in the diagnostics. Btw, who crashed and Blue screen view often mis-diagnosing the problem (IMHO) by choosing an OS file if they cant find the underlying cause

Most recent crash is inconclusive.

So, should I do a RAM test using memtest then ?

Oh, I got BSOD again while surfing the net but I think its caused by IE7.

Here is that minidump.

Not IE.

Btw you dont have vista SP's installed and you should do that first.

Sorry but I dont have Vista SP 1 or 2 or anything else. None of my friends or relatives have that and I dont have money either. I will test Need for Speed Hot Pursuit tonight to see if I get any BSOD. At the moment, it seems that BC2 updater might have problems.

"You are going to have to start from scratch in the diagnostics", what do you mean by that ?

Should I run memtest to test my two RAMs individually for 12 hours ?

Settle the software first. If you are going to stay on vista you really, really need the SP updates.

All right, I was playing Hot Pursuit and after about 15 minutes, BSOD yet again. That confirms that there are no problems with BC2 but it also confirms that there arent any issues with my graphics card or hard disk. However, I think that RAM is most likely to be the reason for all this chaos. I am suspecting the kingston RAM to be the issue but I will test both my RAMs using memtest. Any suggestions ?

The most recent crash was related to rasacd.sys. In order to fix it you are going to need to update to SP-1.

I think I should become a computer detective now after my recent findings :D. Well, I removed my iBall RAM and put my old kingston RAM. My system started fine. I started Hot Pursuit and played for 45 minutes at a stretch with only a few frame drops. I quit the game and still everything is fine. I installed IE8 after installing required updates and now my IE is no longer crashing. So, is my iBall RAM the problem ? I will find it out tomorrow when I run the memtest. Even Bad Company 2 ran well and most importantly, I did not get BSOD while patching it. Zigzag sir, what are your thoughts ? (I am calling you sir because judging by your profile remarks, you should be aged above 30 and I am only 17)

AGAIN, You need to update to SP-2.

When you have finished that I will be happy to continue to help you. If you cant update you would be better off in win 7 at least there you dont need to update.

Short of that you are going to keep having problems in you headlong rush to play games.
