Worth buying Office Professional 2010 for under 15€?

I'm just wondering whether this is worth the purchase: My company has enrolled in the Home Use Program and is offering Office Pro 2010 for a digital download of 12.95€.

It's cheap, and I have Open Office currently installed. I don't use it a great deal but under 15 bucks is almost too cheap to ignore, even though it's nearly 2 years old now. I would however if there are any issues with software / hardware compatability.
What are opinions of forum members?

MS Office is a very large program, and can cause problems if you install multiple versions of it on top of each other (ie 07 & 10). It should work, however, with most hardware, provided your computer isn't growing a beard itself for how long it takes to boot up. I myself would install it, but open office works just as well, and seems to be a bit more refined than MS office. But for that price, and if you can, you might see if another family member or friend would like to have it provided you do not.

If you use Office at all, by all means, take advantage of your companies home use program. Even though nearly 2 years old, 2010 is the newest version out there. And the Home Use Program is usually the higher end version which comes with more software. I know we used to get it for $10-$15, and it was nearly $450 retail for the version we used to get at work.

I'd agree with the previous posters. That deal is too good to pass up. I switched back to MS Office 2010 from OpenOffice when I got a similar deal about a year ago and have not regretted it once.

At that price, it's an absolute gift.

Granted, you may not use all that MS Office has to offer, but as Joan points out, it is a great application.

To everyone - thanks for the replies.

I decided to get it.. I used to love OneNote back in the day, I use Excel to note my hours worked every month and occasionally use Word. The rest isn't really used, but as has been said, too good to pass up...

However, the download link I received included M$ Lync 2010, which was x86 (as was the Office Pro) - it wouldn't instal on my Home Premium x64. Googling found me a x64 download link, but it hasn't worked yet... it keeps trying to log in, then "Error, cannot sign in to Lync - the server is temporarily unavailable. If the problem continues, please contact your support team". <sigh>...

Even though you have a 64 bit OS, you most likely want the 32 bit version of Office. This is what Microsoft recommends that everybody load. Reason being is that a ton of 3rd party plugins and such won't work with the 64bit version of Office.

At my shop, several of us run 64bit OS's to get full use of 4GB or more or RAM, but we stick with 32bit Office 2010.

@pparks1 - yes, agreed, but The x86 version of Lync would not instal - it gave me a compatability error. I have installed x86 Office though.

It would appear that the 64-bit version of Office has the ability to work with Excel files larger than 2 GB in size.

Microsoft do recommend that most users are best to use the 32-bit version to avoid any compatibility issues with some Office functions.
