Nvidia GeForce 360M in my Asus G60JX Errors

My display goes black Frequently for about 10 seconds, then get an error that my "Display stopped responding but has recovered." is there something wrong with my video card or is it my notebook? I thought my notebook may be overheating for the exhaust was hot so I bought a chilling mat with 2 fans but getting the same problem?
I did blow it out with canned air & Of Course I'm 3 mos. over the warranty & stupidly, didn't get the extended warranty...

I did Not report BSOD, if you read my post, I am getting an error "Display driver stopped responding & has recovered"; this is after my display goes Black for about 15-20 sec. It is just very Frustrating & hope it doesn't effect anything else...

Don't know how to check temp.? I did blow it out & Of Course it's 3 mos. over warranty & stupidly, didn't buy the extended one; But I listen to Kim Komando & she doesn't believe in them SO, I didn't buy one. Anyways Best Buy Gouges you on EVERYTHING!! I swore I would Never go back to them after they soaked me $400.00 into repairs on my desktop with their Geek (thief squad) Squad; But they were the only ones at the time I could find this Asus with the specs I wanted & only had $1,000. to spend. Even though this is a Gamer (which I don't play) I use it as my desktop replacement. Sorry for the long post...

Install the driver and use this utility:

I am having the exact same issues on the same computer. If you find out whats causing it I'd love to hear what works for you.

I first updated the driver to 285 about a month ago because of some lag issues on a previously very smooth running game.

That didn't help but now this issue with the screen blacking out and there has even been some messed up pixel-looking things along the top and bottom of my screen. I would take a screenshot but they are not captured in the screenshot. I've blown out the unit and I've been using a Thermaltake usb fan. Maybe its just time to get a new card?

Edit: Also, I use the MSI Afterburner for keeping track of my temperature and when I'm not running a game the GPU temperature is 50-53 degrees Celsius, and running a game can be anywhere from 70-80 degrees Celsius.

Lemur- Yes, the temperatures are the same. In the hour since my last post I haven't noticed the problems.
Also, for me personally, it seems to happen most often while I'm on the internet. Switching between tabs, entering a Google search, loading pages, and sometimes even just scrolling.

A note to the OP: I did not mean to thread-hijack. Hopefully we have similar issues.

Ah yes ... so I've heard. Its frustrating to know my "gaming" laptop isn't exactly all its meant to be. I know there are limits to laptops of any type but after 2+ years perhaps the card has almost called it quits.

I can connect to an external monitor. Would it matter if it was VGA or HDMI? I have both options.

So it could be a monitor issue? The reason that never occured to me is because the alert bubble that is displayed after a "black out" claims the graphics stopped responding. Unfortunately I do not remember exactly what the bubble says but next time I will get that info.

If the "bubble" comes up on the black screen then I doubt its a screen problem....Have you tried drivers from the Asus site?

Actually the notification comes up when the screen is restored, if that changes anything. And no, I will look at those right now.

The chipset usually covers all the drivers....might be worth a shot....try the external anyway, might possibly be a screen issue...

Some laptop nVidia cards work better with older drivers, as well. There have been some known issues with drivers past 275.xx for some cards. Does the Asus support site provide the original driver? Can you install the original driver using the recovery DVDs/recovery partition?

If you install this way, use the following method.

1. Download and install Driver Sweeper
2. Get the original drivers for your display card
3. Click Start Menu
4. Right Click My Computer
5. Click Manage
6. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
7. Click the + next to Display adapter
8. Right click your display/graphics card device
9. Click Uninstall
10. Check the box to Delete driver software for the device
11. Click OK
12. Restart your computer in safe mode
13. Run Driver Sweeper, select display card manufacturer's drivers, analyze, clean
14. Restart your computer
15. Install the original drivers

Another possibility is to revert to an older driver. Especially if the problem cropped up during an update.
