help finding good aftermarket heat sink

im looking for a good, rather in-expensive aftermarket heat sink that can cool me from a waping 55 degree play time and 39 degree idle to a more reasonable # for overclocking. also, it would be good if it is amd am3, AND intel lga 1155 compatable. price range im looking for is less than $60. i should also probably ask if an h100 would be more effective, i would imagine it would, and i know thats 60 more than i wanted to spend, but it may be worth it at some point

Going to recommend the cooler I have. It's way less then $60, but doubt you'll find much better at twice the price.

i saw that, i know of noctua and allot of people say its in the top 2 best, but i wasnt sure of how good it would be as an aftermarket heat sink

i was taking a look at one on new egg, dont remember what it was called, it was an arctic silver one, im farily certain it will NOT out perform a noctua, but incase i find i dont have the funds when im ready, its i think 40 or 50, it was the arctic silver 13 aftermarket heat sink. just looking for some input on whether or not it would be worth it if i find i cant spare the extra 20 later on

Considering that the only cooler listed above the Noctua on that Freezer 13 list is in a category of it's own, and goes for ~$849, I would say that the Noctua is the best in it's class.

I've used an H100 in my last two customer builds(by request),they were a pain to mount and are really meant for beyond the norm overclocking. I use an H100 in my gaming rig, but I shelled out that much cash to reach 5Ghz at reasonable temps. The H100 is built for pushing the boundaries of your processor without moving into custom water cooling loops.

I would go with A Guy's suggestion of the Hyper 212. I've worked with one of these before. The installation was pretty straight forward, and dropped the temps by 9-12 C.

i plan on ocing my BE955 to maybe a little over 4, maybe 4.3 ghz and having a bit of fun with a new i7 iplan on buying also, but not as much with the i7 because its already so fricking fast. so if the noctua can do it, i think thats the direction ill go, based o ntheir fan prices, 80 % of the price of that heat sink is the fans lol

You'll have to keep in mind size of the cooler, and Ram slot placement, ram height as well as case dimensions. A Guy

you say discounted, do you mean its discounted from what its worth or that theres actually somewhere selling it for less than 120? because i have to say although i am not religiously air cooling, and i actually verry much love water cooling, for how powerful the h100 is said to be i would want it to be a full system, not just cpu. i think as of now im just gunna look into setting up my case with all noctua and that noctua heat sink, but if you can prove me wrong in that venture let me know

No way or interest to prove you wrong my friend, the noc's are my best cooling fans and I swear by them! And I hear the CPU cooler is tops as well. My point is the $120.00 that is list is more like 95.00-100.00 on the street or rumored less.

Perhaps I'm just not open minded enough, but I just do not like the idea of any kind of liquid cooling in my case. I know that I've even seen a computer submerged in an aquarium used for cooling, but my mind just doesn't adapt to that kind of idea. Perhaps someone with deeper pockets than mine, and an obsession to clock to the max, would find it acceptable, but I'm not that person.

Perhaps you you hit your nail on it's head ! There really is no right or wrong ! It's an individuals choice AMD vs Intel, ATI VS NVIDIA, Air VS Water, ect.........

i like the idea of it in some scenarios, if you have multiple G cards, 6tb of hdd, 64gb of ram and dual i7 2600ks, i see great need for water cooling, beyond that, its just easier to install with more long term maintenance, oh! and it looks cool, but besides all that lol

If I go back on air cooling I would choose Noctua for sure. At the present time I only run their fans and they are very quiet and move lots of air. Any thing Noctua cost a little more but you and your computer are worth it.

thank you, i have to say im not a huge fan of the color scheme, but i think i can get over that if er' one else thinks theyre some of the best lol. i do some more fancy lighting or something lol
