Hi, really need all your urgent help as I'm freaking out a bit as its not really my comp, and its fairly new.

Okay my computer turns ON, but makes less noise than it used to when working, and just shows a black screen...doesn't even enter bios.

Recent changes:

Ok, I installed a new Graphics card, radeon hd 5450, installed the drivers etc, got it working perfectly. Then a short while after I also downloaded a reputable program called watt 2.2.5 to clear my windows non genuine message.

Then shortly after both, I was changing my theme, and the computer screen just went blank. Even keyboard wasn't working (I was pressing "caps" to see if caps light would come on and it didn't). So I powered off, now I just keep getting black screen! What has happened? How can I fix this? Really need your help! Thanks

do you no your way around the in side of your system? if so try removing the battery from your motherboard and leave the power unpluged for about 1 hour then put the battery back and plug your power cord back in and see what happens.

Yes, I can give that a try, but I heard, if your bios doesn't have a backup, then this can cause problems?

it will just reset your bios settings so you will have to set them up again when and if you get it to post.

Is this a likely cause then, given my circumstances? I auto assumed it would be linked to graphics card. Could graphics card have blew cmos battery then?

Okay, so I removed the graphics card, and still nothing. Not looking good. Could the graphics card have caused something to blow? Kind of freaking out, because it's not my comp as I say.

So I turned back on, after taking the new Graphics card out, and same thing, fans spun, and to add, there were NO beeps at all.

Ok, so now I have removed to the cmos battery, and am now just waiting an hour to put back in. What would be my next step after checking that? Man I hope its nothing too expensive.

If it is the mobo, could it be the graphics card that blew it? If so why? It was a light end, radeon hd 5450, why has it blown? I was advised it'd be ok. Are there other things that could've caused this? The card should've been fine, why has it blown it?

ok the only think left that you can do is turn the system off (unplug it) and remove the cables from the hard drives and pull out all the cards ( video / sound / ...) .then try to boot and see if you get a post . also how many sticks of memory do you have?

ok now where getting somewhere,
in your first post you said no keyboard power and a blank screen. if it says no video then you should have said that from the start. return the video card for a new one and see if that fixs it.

Ok, sorry about that, I'm just not that knowledgeable about computers. It was a second hand card, but I only want to return if its 100% the card at fault. But I also have integrated graphics...so shouldn't they work?

You could try removing the graphics card, then removing the BIOS battery as you did earlier to reset the BIOS, then replace the battery. That should set things to defaults, which should reset the BIOS to use the onboard VGA. If that does not work, it may be your motherboard and not the card that is bad. You would have to try another card to be 100% sure it is not the card at fault, though.

Also, make sure you practice good electrostatic discharge (ESD) habbits and keep yourself grounded when touching PC components (Avoid Static Damage to Your PC | PCWorld).

For ESD Safety, follow these steps:
  1. Shut down and turn off your computer.
  2. Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
  3. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
  4. Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Ok I'll try that later. Does Anyone know why my motherboard would've gone though? All I done was put in the new graphics card, and it was low profile, so shouldnt have really damaged it? I'm just really confused by it
