BSOD upon starting League of Legends match with several apps running

As the title says it happened right when a match was about to load. Several programs including Chrome and the League of Legends client feel extremely clunky. The effect of clicking or dragging is typically unresponsive or slow.

I had near identical problems prior to re-installing the OS, they never really went away therefore I'm led to believe it's hardware related.

- 3 year-old laptop hardware (Gateway p7805u)
- Windows7 x64 Retail (Re-installed about 5 months ago)
- Original OS was OEM Vista

The BSOD was probably caused by tdx.sys.

You will need to run an sfc/scannow command in an elevated command prompt. If errors are found, run it twice more with each scan followed by a reboot.

You should then test your RAM using Memtest86+. Let it run until 6-8 passes have completed or errors have been found.

Finally, enable Driver Verifier. However before you do, it is advised that you create a system restore point and backup first.

Please follow JaidynM's excellent advice. I'd just like to add some other comments to this topic....

Tdx.sys is a Windows networking component. As such, it's advisable to:
- uninstall/reinstall a fresh copy of the networking drivers (both wired and wireless if so equipped)
- uninstall/reinstall any web-aware applications - especially things like Internet Security applications.

Your O2Micro device (most likely a memory card reader) doesn't have any drivers installed. Please visit the Gateway website and download/install the drivers from there.

First off thank you for the responses. I have followed all the steps exactly as described and here is what I have discovered:
No errors were found with SFC.
I ran MemTest overnight and no errors were found.
Every driver is up to date and I've removed any programs that may interfere with networking.

Basically through trial and error, I've discovered that my wireless network card is the source of my problems. Prior to BSOD, I witnessed extreme audio latency and crackling. The exact same occurrence happened with my previous Windows installation. The audio problems persist but don't always lead to BSOD. With that said, the audio issues are EXTREMELY bad when I am using wifi. It also causes programs and the mouse cursor to lag. Simply switching the device off improves computer performance, and completely disabling the component drastically improves the audio quality. Even with the driver uninstalled, my computer will not perform at it's full potential. I still experience performance issues as mentioned in my first post; programs like the League of Legends client and Chrome are very slow to respond.

The adapter is an Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN. It appears the 5000 series is notorious for causing issues similar to mine with no obvious solution. I've tried the most recent drivers as well as legacy but have the same results.

I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm happy I've discovered the problem but the solution seems hazy. Replace the component?

Do you have any spare network cards handy that would fit in and be compatible with your particular laptop? If not, I wouldn't recommend buying a replacement until it seems as if your problem is unsolvable.

Is it possible to connect your computer via cable to the internet? What happens then? Does it, like Wi-Fi cause BSOD's or is it fine?

Well that's the thing - 80% of the time I'm using an ethernet cable but I still experience audio/video playback latency and performance issues. Not to mention my BSOD occurred while using the lan line - not wifi.

As I discussed however, the severity of these issues increases drastically when the network card is enabled - and even more so when in use.

I'm nearly certain the performance issues began when I switched from Vista to 7 - and I'm guessing there are some major flaws with Intel drivers and compatibility. I'm certainly not the only one experiencing this as there are many threads highlighting problems with these network cards - I just never realized that was the source of my trouble until now.

I'm tempted to remove the component entirely and just resort to a separate wifi device. I won't be able to do this until next weekend - but I'll be sure to post results.

As for now I'm open to suggestions. Again the network card is an Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN. Perhaps someone can shed some light on a workaround.

In that case, it could be one of two problems.

Your Wi-Fi/modem is not compatible with Windows 7 (unlikely) or like you said, your network card isn't (likely).

To diagnose the first problem you could test the Wi-Fi on another computer. If the problems still occur, it’ll be the network card. If that’s the case, you’ll just have to wait until you can get that separate Wi-Fi device as you mentioned or until someone with similar problems can post a solution.

Just in passing, crackling, and latency can be caused by a driver and you can use these to test if one is at fault. (both are free) Resplendence is better for the audio crackling.
