A video is worth a thousand words (you may jump the "Windows is loading files" part)

  • Can't install from USB (I don't have one big enough for the installation files)
  • I tried running an ISO from Grub, No results.
  • Tried Running the installation from a partition. Cannot boot it.
  • Tried with default bios setting, Not working either.

Whats disabled on the bios:
  • Floppy
  • Native SATA support
  • IDE Controller

Boot order:
  • Internal CD drive
  • Primary Hard Disk
  • USB
  • Network

Thanks In Advance for any help :)

Bought the software from MS Store online, downloaded iso.... Gonna try burning at 4x.
i know how to install Windows, but never had this problem before.

Are there people who actually think Win7 fits in a CD? wow.

GRUB is on one drive, i want to install windows into the slave drive. I have it as a slave because it has no OS on it.

I'll reply with results, Thanks.

You should proceed with a booted installer which is needed for repairs and because installing from an OS can lock up C so that Win7 will not be seen as C when booted into it as it does when installed correctly from boot. That said, you can install from an OS on C over itself and Win7 will claim C.

In your case if you have GRUB on another HD, then I would unplug it and boot to install Win7 to its target HD. With separate HD's it's best to boot them independently via the BIOS rather than using GRUB or Win7 Dual Boot manager. Set Win7 to boot first, after install plug back in Linux and boot it using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.

The only problem with this is, Windows 7 64 installers doesn't run on 32 bits. I can assure you that if i could have done this i would have solved this problem long ago... but thanks for the reply.

I've tried installing without the GRUB drive, only the slave in the master slot.... but still getting the same problem . I hope that with the new DVD i'm burning this problem is not gonna happen again.

Where did you get the ISO? How are you burning it? Use ImgBurn at 4x speed, or write to flash stick using Universal USB Installer.

If new installer fails try wiping the target HD, and as always install with other unplugged: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Again, I bought it from MSStore, I downloaded the ISO. The disk would take a while to get here. Burning with K3B on Ubuntu. Like you told me 4x speed. My main Windows partition is super unstable (i just moved the HD from my old laptop to this one).

Did you read the post? Can't install from USB (I don't have one big enough for the installation files)

Did you see the video? i cant get past that part, not even with a clean harddrive my laptop restarts. It does the same for both my HDDs... they work on my old computer so i know the problem is not that.

The DVD burned, tried again with my 250gb drive (the slave) on the main slot, same results.

Sorry I missed a post of yours.

I'd use ImgBurn which always works. Never heard of K38.

Did you wipe the HD?

Next reset BIOS to defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI to try install.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Used ImgBurn, Same thing

Wiped the HD, set it to NTFS, same results

Bios to default, Same result

Cant change to AHCI, i dont have that option on my bios :/

I really don't know what else to do.

Try removing all but 2gb of RAM to try install.

The way to eliminate the installer as cause is to buy a $5 4gb flash stick to write the ISO with Universal USB Installer. Maybe you can borrow one for a few hours?

YOu have unplugged all other HD's and wiped the HD using DIskpart Clean command?

If all else fails you can move the HD to another computer to install, then SysPrep before moving Win7 back to target computer: SysPrep to move HD to another computer

Hey Gregrocker, turns out it was the installation after all, I believe the laser of my burner might be damaged or there is an error on the ISO i downloaded. I tried all the disks i had burned on my old computer and the same happened.

I will get a USB drive as you suggested and try again.

I will mark the thread as Solved. I will PM you if i get into any other problems (its always good to have an MVP to help ;)) Thanks a lot for the help!
