Windows Crashes & Now Req Phoenix Fail Safe Key on booting up Laptop

Hi
My sister laptop since yesterday is Now Req Phoenix Fail Safe Key on booting up Samsung N130 Laptop.

She said the laptop crashed while she was browsing the net and when she turn it on and off over night she was display with a Black Screen asking her for a "Phoenix Fail Safe Key"

She has no idea what the key is and does not remember taking the service out.
So we decided to try and get some support from Phoenix but on there website the service in now closed down
Failsafe

So im not sure how to get rid of this i cant enter bios or boor up and reinstall windows etc is there any way to get rid of this?

What if i take the CMOS Battery out will this restart the system? and get rid of the key request?

I purchased a laptop from a computer shop and it was refurbished and return to factory settings. it worked fine for over 2 months and this morning it was asking for a failsafe key.

I contacted the shop and he has no idea nor does he have the details of the owner as it was a few months ago.

I can't do anything, not even get into BIOS :(

Thank you for your reply.

The issue is I don't have a password or email. I never registered with Failsafe.

The netbook thinks its stolen when it's not. The netbook was return to factory settings from the shop before I bought it. The pevious owner must have registered it with failsafe...The only this that triggered this whole thing was windows updates and it went like that after a restart.

How the heck do I get this sorted. The shop is asking me to speak to Samsung or Pheonix failsafe. He has given me a receipt for the netbook to prove it was not stolen.

If you can't boot into windows or bios then maybe the only solution would be booting from some linux live CD and format whole disk.
then try to boot into bios and install new windows.

or try to insert windows installation disc and run startup repair.(maybe that may help somehow)

Hmmmm I wish... you can't get to BIOS screen to tell the damn thing to boot from CD or USB. The very first thing you see is the the screen asking for this 16 digit key.

How about removing a harddrive from laptop and booting into bios :D
removing a HD is not so hard, all you need is screwdriver.

unplug laptop from power, remove batery and use screwdriver to remove harddrive.
then put batery back into notebook and plug laptop into power again.
turn it on and try to go into bios.

by going into bios you may be able to change the boot order, thus inserting your USB/DVD.
post the results.

Looks like you know less than me. The BIOS is not on the HDD but on a BIOS chip on the motherboard.

First screen you see is the password key CAN NOT get to the BIOS screen !!!

There is no way round this apart from getting the 16 digit key. I have never signed up for this so I don't have an account to get the key. Catch 22

Speak with someone who is very technologically inclined.

We unfortunately are not allowed to help you further because it would violate forum rules. :( Anything we might tell you could be used by someone who stole a laptop, so we cannot help more. I'm very sorry.

Well only if only you read my first post then you wouldn't say that. Why do people always make stupid assumptions like that. I said I bought the refurbished Netbook from PC World so obviously it's not stolen. The software activated its self after windows update.

Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics.

We understand that you want to know how to contact Samsung Fail Safe and when you try to perform recovery on the netbook, it just prompts for the 16 digit key.

We are really sorry about this.

We would like to inform you that there is no use of the Samsung Fail Safe to fix the issue and we have no information about how to contact the Samsung Fail Safe.

However, to fix the issue, we recommend you find a 16 digit product key provided at the bottom of the netbook and enter it.

If you require additional assistance, you can email us by copying and pasting the URL below:

Did read your first post. What I meant was, these forums are read by many many many people, and if someone who had stolen a laptop stumbled across this thread, that person could use the information given to help you to help bypass the security with a stolen laptop. Therefore, we would be helping that person with a stolen laptop.

Also, please read the forum rules regarding being rude.
