Solved PerfectDisk 12.5 Pro error 1303

Hello, I wanted to update my 12.5 Pro from build 309 to 310. When I tried to install the update it stated that I needed to uninstall my version then reinstall the latest. Well I uninstalled it and now when I try to reinstall 12.5 Pro (any build I get the error 1303(installer does not have sufficient privileges). I have tried all fixes such as run as admin,different compatibility modes etc no avail. I have used PD for a long time and never had this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

The first item to check is make sure you are trying to install the proper bit version. I see you have x64 in your specs, so the version of PD12.5 should be x64, and not x32.

Check to see if the previous uninstaller left any remnants of PD12.5 in either the Program or Program (x86) Folders, such as an empty PD12.5 sub-folder.

Have you tried to install PD12.5 in Safe mode?

Check to make sure your SYSTEM Properties have full control.

Use Win Explorer to go to the drive you are checking, then see if SYSTEM has full control.

I have the feeling the previous version of PD12.5 did something to your permissions.

System has full control,tried the above steps,and safe mode will not let me install it. I e-mailed support at Raxio but its been a day and a half and still no answers. I'll try anything else. I even did system restore but to no avail

I have more suggestions dealing with ownership, and permissions, but perhaps we should wait until you hear back from Raxio.

In the meantime it wouldn't hurt to run: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html Run it three times with a restart in between each run. Then you could try to install PD12.5 after those runs.

Well isn't that wonderful, tried to run sfc /scannow now and it stops at 8% and says" Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation". Whats up with that? I haven't run sfc /scannow like forever because I haven't had any problems with anything.

Whats up with that? I can tell you it's not good. It has a lot of possible causes.

Check that the TrustedInstaller (Windows Modules Installer) service is not disabled: "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service" Error When Running SFC in Windows 7 and Vista - The Winhelponline Blog

Then run: How to Run Disk Check in Windows 7

• Option One
• Steps 1 through 4
• Then step 8
• Step 10 or 11, depends whether or not the OS is on the Drive you selected.

This will take some time, so be patient. Post back results, good or bad.

Anok, Did the operations that you told me,Ckdisk was fine,Windows Modules Installer was at manual. Sure is strange. My system really is running fine. I have no problems installing updates,apps,etc. I just PerfectDisk12.5.

Did you try running SFC /scannow after running checkdisk? If you did, and saw the same warning try running SFC in safe mode.

How did you un-install PD12.5, did you use the PD Cleanup tool? I am unable to uninstall PerfectDisk from my computer in order to install PerfectDisk 12.

Do you still have Process Guard installed? Process Guard software prevents PerfectDisk Installation.

Tried SFC i Safe Mode and still the same problem. As far as Process Guard ,I never had it.(Is that app part of PD?) Searched my PC and have no Process Guard.

Okay on Process Guard, no worries. Might be part of app.

How did you uninstall previous version of PD12?

What do you have for malware protection? If you have real-time protection turn it off to run SFC.

I uninstalled it through add/remove programs,then when the new build would not install I use PD cleanup utility.! use SpywareBlastermMAlwarebytes(free) it's not realtime,and Panda Cloud AV.

I have SpywareBlaster, and MBAM(free), but I use MSE, I'm not familiar with Panda Cloud.

Do you still have the PD12.5 downloaded file? Try turning off the Panda Cloud, then try to install PD12.5.

I no longer use Perfect Disk for boot-time System file defrag since Puran seems to work better and offers a Disk Check in the run options. You might want to try that.

I would not ignore SFC failing to run. Try running it from System Recovery Options Command Line: SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

If this fails I would consider a Repair Install. I would also not use the suspect software again, especially because there is better freeware now available to do all that it does.

In step 5 is that the drive where my operating system is (C) for the DVD drive I'm booting From (D)?

It should locate your Win7 installation and give the letter seen for it from Repair, which might not be the same as in Windows. But it should be recognizable by name and size, especially if you have only one installed OS.

I tried the command prompt from thw disk and it says I had an error pending to restart and run sfc again.... I did it 7 times and still get the same message.

In that case run Startup Repair from System Recovery Options to resolve the pending repair.

If SFC will not run then you may need to back up your files and Repair Install as that is serious corruption.

You can also check the logs and other System Resources for clues, establish a clean boot while seeing if PD left any listings in msconfig, as it sometimes will leave behind services which are running at the time of uninstall: troubleshooting steps
