When pressing the "c" key it displays either mvx or c'/. Sometimes other letters and symbols are displayed as well. I think it might be a Registry problem but don't really know my way around. It does not always do this but when it does do it,it is really annoying and difficult to do many things. Any help is appreciated.

Does only the one key type the wrong character? Could be a dirty contact. If this is a desktop, try the keyboard on another computer.

yes, only the one key types the wrong characters, no, it is a laptop, and when it types the wrong character it can either type "mvx(enter)" or "c'/" or the letter "c" depending on how much it would like to annoy me.

It used to do this a while ago, but then stopped for ages and has only now started doing it again.

Try the On Screen Keyboard. It is in All Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access. If that works properly, then it is a keyboard problem.

This has never happened before, I think it is registry issue, what should that part of my registry look like.

Tried this and it did not detect any issues.

It is not the keyboard, when I turn my computer on at first the "c" key malfunctions but after a few hours it starts to work again with no sign of it not working.

How could you know for sure, it's not your keyboard, unless you test the device on a different computer.

Or use a different keyboard on your machine.

Have you done any of this?

If not, you should. This is a first step in diagnosing your issue.

We cannot properly diagnose your issue... unless you follow our suggestions. Then let us know the results.

What type of keyboard are you using? Is it a wired USB, or a wireless?

However, If the keyboard is not the issue, try a repair install. And if that does not work a system recovery.

It`s a laptop people. It`s most definitly the keyboard.
As suggested if you had a usb keyboard around, plug it in and test.

This issue has not occurred again for sometime, it seems to happen for a while then stop for about a year and a half and then start again. It has somehow resolved itself and I have done nothing to try and fix it so...I don't know why this happens. Also I have tried other methods such as using other keyboards and it is not the issue, it still happened.

hi i had the same issue too.tried every thing ended replacing keyboard works fine now.I had 2 keys malfunctions

hi 007peter94, i have the same problem exactly. IE pressing c on the keyboard results in:mvx{ENTER}. There is one other reference i found online to this problem but the solution was hopeless, however another user chimed in saying they had it as well. Are you using an Asus Pro61s? It is heartening that you said it went away. Looks like I'll be using an external keyboard for now. It happened for 10 minutes yesterday and went away after a restart. today it's been happening all day, i've removed and cleaned the keyboard and repaired the disk to no avail. I might try windows restore but i do have a strong suspicion it's the hardware. will update if I ever find out what's wrong.

Are you also experiencing the problem with the virtual keyboard?
And have you tried updating your drivers?
The drivers for your model laptop (32 bit Windows 7) can be found at here (the keyboard driver is listed under Other).

Hi Nommy, Thanks for your prompt reply given the thread is getting on!

I installed the updated keyboard drivers. The on-screen keyboard works normally, in fact i am using it to enter c's right now. Still the problem persists.. I'll press c on the laptop keyboard now:mvx
there it goes, mvx and {enter}. I think there is an {Alt} in there too somewhere as when i test it in notepad i see the menu heading shortcut letters underlined for a brief second as if pressing alt to commence a series of shortcut keystrokes. or as you would to use the arrow keys to navigate the menus.

This has got me stumped. I'll be purchasing a cheap keyboard tomorrow i guess for now. I'm pretty sure it's hardware, anyways if you can think of anything let me know.

I'd say that it's a hardware problem yes.
Just to be sure, have you also tried the sfc /scannow command? If not, check the tutorial here.

identikal problem possibly after some water ended up over the laptop keyboard...
