I had to reformat my 1st hd last night, but after it all got done, i can't access the data on my second hd. it shows up (in explorer), and i can see that there are files on it (used space), but when i open that drive in explorer, it shows as empty.

i did the disc management route, and it shows up there too. what could be causing this?

i need help, all my work data is on that disc.

If you have enuf room try copy and pasting the drive ( don`t open it ) to your documents folder. It couldn`t hurt.

Do you have another machine you could hook it up to ?

That is a strange one. :sarc:

this gets more strange now. i did what you said (copied the drives content to the C: drive) and now that directory is empty too, even though it shows it has all the data in the volume.

wth is going on here????

thanks, addram. i'm sure one of these will fix my problem. i'm just really perplexed as to why it is happening in the first place.

better brew a pot of coffee. looks like i'll be up late tonight. :)

thanks

You should check it at first that those files are not converted to hidden.

If you've winrar application installed.. then simply try opening the winrar app & then browse your hd through that & see whether you're able to see the directories or files.. if so, just drag & drop those files to your preferred destination.. see image blow;

winrar fix didn't work. the files still didn't show up. the "active" thing is probably the key. i'm on to the upper explorer trick. :)

ok, when i just went to reinstall windows, the D: \drive is showing up as a primary. is that right? I can't remember if that's what they should be. i may have to copy all the content to my ext, then reinstall windows and hope the ext is fine.

but it even has the same problem. i'm wondering if this is a bug or something.

Have a second look. While in the C drive, where you can see all the files and folders, set the hidden files and folders as visible, and browse to that another place .

Dont mark anything active/inactive at the first place... first post a screenshot of your full screen disk management window ... let us check that it is really necessary.

it was a bug. a nice little utility called "unhide exe" found it and got rid of the problems.

thanks for all the help.
